What is it about Analytical Writing Placement Exam?

Hey, Guys. Does anybody know what is it about Analytical Writing Placement Exam? I checked the website, but I didn't find too much information about it. Besides, is it difficult to pass the exam? Thanks a lot.

For the writing exam. if You have AP or IB writing (My IB writing got me wavered), you can be exempt from it. Else, you take the exam at the beginning of the year I think ( I believe it’s offered both before the start of school and during the 2nd week- need 2 double check)

From what I heard, the exam is not a walk in the park. But if you fail it, it’s no big deal. It just means that you won’t be able to register for one of your writing classes (For Sixth college, you need to satisfy this req in order to enroll in CAT 3).

If you fail, you have 2 options. Take the test again or take SDCC remedial writing for 1 quarter

Sophmore @ Sixth next year :)

i didn’t think it was hard to pass. but it just depends on what type of writing you were taught in high school and what kind of college writing prep classes you had.

it’s a timed write similar to the ones on the SAT. you’ll need to be able to write a well-developed persuasive essay within a certain time period.
my test coordinator was cool and let us out whenever we finished and the entire thing only took me 45 minutes or so.
again, it depends on your writing abilities and how you have been trained to do timed essays.

like wintersnow said, it’s nbd if you don’t pass it. you just have to take sdcc classes to review college writing skills (although i’ve heard that these classes aren’t necessarily easy and require a bit of work)

oh, and here’s a hint that i found to be quite advantageous. when you’re taking the test, it should be a broad topic (i think mine was about honesty). if you incorporate a historical figure or event into your essay, it should be easy to pass.
(given that you’re able to tie the historical artifact and essay topic together in a coherent manner)

Thank you, wintersnow2415 and paradise 17
