Is it really social or academic/intellectual? Is it a bunch of rich kids? Is it liberal? Are the girls there just to get their MRS degree (thats what I heard from an alum, don't know if it true)?
Also, how competitive is the honors program? Is it very intellectual/challenging for a high achiever?

Ironjawedangel: you can find both the social and the academic/intellectual at GW. While there are many affluent students at GW (as at many upper tier schools) there are also many students there on scholarship. 60% of this year's freshman class (2350 students) is receiving some form of financial aid. My daughter is a freshman there, forensic chemistry major and is aspiring to their 5 years MS program. She was a top student in high school and is achieving good grades at GW but is working much harder for those grades now than in hs. Honors program is competetive (D was accepted to the Science Scholar Program instead of honors---average honors SAT is 1350+ old SAT). Are there people there who's primary interest is social life and partying, yes. Are there others with different interests and can you find a group to suit your interests, yes. For this year's freshman class, there were 19,000+ applications, acceptance rate was 37%. 2350 students enrolled, average SAT for these was 1290 (old sAT) 65 % were in the top 10% of their high school class. Somewhere around 500 or so students were accepted ED. So far my daughter is happy and GW is exactly what she expected it to be.

Girls there to get an Mrs. Degree is such an old school statement. I recognize that an alum told you this but really......a very outdated concept.
