What is priority applications?

I'm going into my senior year of HS this fall.

I was looking at one of my potential colleges and it said "The priority application filing period for fall 2013 will be October 1, 2012 through November 30, 2012."

Are priority applicants anything special? Would it benefit me to apply earlier(Let's say I finish applying the first week of October instead of waiting for Nov.30 to come). Would that help me get in?

Well, bump!

Priority application is the phrase used by many public universities to refer to their non-binding early action programs. If you apply by the given date, you will get an early decision of either admit, reject or defer to regular decision. It is also sometimes refers to a date by which you need to apply to qualify for some of the college’s scholarships. Though applying during the priority application time can sometimes create some small advantage over those who apply after the priority period ends, it usually makes no difference whether you apply at the beginning or end of the priority application period. Also, be aware that some of those colleges require that all things, including test scores and transcript, be in their hands by the end of the priority application period to be considered. In other words, don’t wait till the last minute to order transcripts and test scores.

Cool, thank you so much! :)
