I'm doing Summer B this summer and I just wanted to know what it's like?
Are the frays there? How many classes do you usually take? I just want to know if it was worth choosing it instead of starting in fall.

I second this post.
Anyone?

Summer B is hotter than hell in Gainesville, but I think that it is the best way to experience UF. You should only take 2 classes in the summer…i.e. 6 credits is recommended. Some kids take more, but I wouldn’t. Maybe 1 general ed. class and one harder class. There is a lot going on, but campus is not as crowded and you can experience the UF student life without the crowds and the pressure. My son’s GF met her greatest friends during summer B, and not in her Fall 2011 dorm. Frats are there, lower key, with lots of parties for incoming freshman. Guys don’t rush til Fall…girls in the summer. I think summer B is the absolute best way to go while at UF! Most everyone recommends it…however, bright futures doesn’t pay for it…on the other hand, you have to go one summer session while at UF, so why not get it done now!

@jankrav- Thank you! I’m extra excited now
p.s- I’m from Miami a.k.a “the year round Oven”, so hopefully Gainseville’s summer won’t seem as hot to me.

@jankrav Thanks for the reply! I haven’t heard a bad thing about it yet. Not sure if you can answer this for me too but how much will everything cost? Like tuition, housing, etc.

Sorry…don’t know current prices…but believe me, Summer B is a great session. My S wanted it in 2010, but they moved him to Fall. My D had it and said it was the best way to get used to everything at UF. It is a really large university and the gradual start with mostly freshman on campus, is really wonderful…you get used to dorm life, where to go to eat ( I recommend declining balance over the meal plans unless you eat a lot), what the Greek presence on campus is all about, how to deal with a roommate, what clubs and organizations are on campus, making new friends, finding the great libraries and study places all over campus, being open to different cultures, being away from home, etc. You can explore all these new experiences with out having to take 4 or 5 classes. It is more relaxed, less pressure dealing with all this and only taking 2 classes (They meet every day during summer B). The campus is much less crowded, albeit very hot outside…but most dorms have wonderful air conditioning. Enjoy everything that summer B holds.

Hello, I started at UF last summer B and it was honestly the best time of my life. If you’re fresh out of high school like I was, it’s your first taste of freedom, and you only have to manage two classes while you get to know the campus and city. I met more people over Summer B than I have Fall and Spring combined, because people are more eager to make friends. The frats are still there, just not as many people. Enjoy the free reign you have over the Greek community, as a Summer B freshman you can go to any frat party without having anyone saying anything to you. To them you’re a potential rushee and to you they’re a potential source of good times(or brotherhood, if you wanna join) In Fall, IFC tightens up on the frats and they are much less likely to let unaffiliated guys in to their parties. Enjoy the light courseload, summer sun, and your superiority complex over Fall freshmen. :)

Thanks for sharing
I’m an upper division transfer but I hope it’s as easy to make friends for me lol
I’m excited about living on campus, though <33
