What is the average SAT score at your school?

No score averages specifically for my school, but in 2009…

•Reading: District—563; state—524; national—501
•Math: District—578; state—531; national—515
•Writing: District—548; state—507; national—493
•Composite: District—1689; state—1562; national—1509

We’re the best out of the four high schools in our district based on academics, so I’d say our average is maybe 10 points higher than the district average…still kind of lame though : /

About a 1500/2400 overall. We’re stunningly average.

M(534) CR(466) W(484) - C (1484)

quite depressing lol

503 CR
500 M
504 W
1507

For a school with only about 600 students (150/class), we have a good amount of kids going to Ivies and US News tops, especially considering an average SAT of 1507. Two Harvards, one Dartmouth, Columbia, MIT, Georgetown, Amherst, etc, just for the Class of 2010. The difference between AP/Honors students and standard level students is stunning.

Oh yeah, small Catholic private.

I should revise: the average SAT score at my school is about 2200 I believe, but only a few people have taken it.

Enlighten me, please: what kind of school do you go to? That’s crazy!

^silverturtle must go to a midwest school, where most kids take ACT’s.

Do colleges tend to take your school’s average standarized test scores into account?

The kind in which the ACT pervades as per state mandate and in which the SAT is taken only the self-selecting.

^That changes things somewhat, but not entirely. Even so, the average SAT score for the top 10 students at my school - not the top 10%, mind you - is a 1730.

Oh, the joys of going to a good school.

My school is not nearly as competitive as would be suggested by the number I estimated, although the figure you cited for your school is quite surprising.

silverturtle doesn’t neccesarily go to a good school, if the average of “a few” self selecting students is 2200, that seems about right. In fact it looks like your school is just not very competitive.

I use a different metric when determining what a “good” school is, it seems.

It depends on the type of competition you’re talking about. When it comes to beer pong, we’ve several strong teams.

Haha nice one.

Cr: 460
w: 450
m: 460

I found average scores for my high school in my score report.

CR - 520
Math - 560
Writing - 510

silverturtle, I saw from another post that you have a 36 ACT as well as a 2400 SAT. If your school makes you take the ACT and you got a 36, may I ask why you took the SAT? Is it because you think colleges have an unofficial preference for the SAT or some other reason?

^ I took the SAT first.

Just for example:

tj’s average is 2250
Maggie walker’s average is 2040

1950 (630 CR/680 M/640 W) (rounded to the nearest score possible, i.e. multiple of 10).

Not too bad, considering that we’re a non-selective public high school…

I also go in the midwest where the ACT is the standard, so I know just one other person in my grade that took the SAT. When I click on that Compare Your Score option, I only get national and state.

So… I have no idea.
