Junior Year just shames me... Darn. I could have gotton a 4.5w both semesters... Darn. It was so easy.... But I just got lost. My grandmother who was like a mother to me was in the hospital the whole time. I'd get 3 hours of sleep almost every other night because of it. I'm so mad at myself. I could've had the grades for Berkeley if I didn't let it get in my way. I'm a good student, but sometimes, I just get lost in myself. As shown by my AP tests, I know my material, I just get distracted in school. I spent too much time on my extra curricular activities and taking walks to clear my head of my grandmother, and not enough time studying. It didn't help that I transferred schools. I don't mean to sound arrogant, but people say that I am pretty attractive; I was nerdy at my old school, but when I transferred to my new school junior year, it was almost as if I was a magnet. People (and girls) couldn't get their hands off of me. It was sort of like I was living in a movie, or a fairy tale. I was so distracted. I may not apply to UCSB because of it (I'd get distracted).

I'm transferring back to my old school. I need the tough course load to keep me from distracting myself. All the the ethereal in-between studies and extra Curriculars really had it's toll on me. If I could take back Junior year, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Junior year was a weird social prime for me. Ugh,.. Fml. And with my grandmother, we don't know how long she has. There were two months where I couldn't show up to school due to emotional sickness because of my grandmother. My parents forced me on a psychologist, and it helped.

Anyway, chance me for
-UC Davis
-UC San Diego
-UC Santa Cruz
-UC Irvine
-UC Los Angeles
-UC Santa Barbara
-UC Berkeley (is it even worth the app?)
-San Diego State
-Santa Clara University
-NYU
Any other universities that I should look into? I need a secluded one like UCSC, it'd help with distractions. Scenery would also be nice. I want to transfer to Stanford Business for Grad School.

Intended Majors: Computer Science and Economics.

My Income: $30,000
Family Income: $180,000
Ethnicity: Caucasion

Oh, and my school is nationally commended! Like, top 20 in state. Blue Ribbon.

And I’m a SoCal resident!

Wow, I forgot to write two major extra curriculars of mine.

-I’ve been practicing magic my whole life. I do private shows. I’m a part of the magic castle (very hard to get into; audition based).

-I’ve written a play and a novel. Both are highly acclaimed. I’ve yet to publish them, though.

“highly acclaimed” but not published???

^By my teachers, principal, and anyone else who can get their hands on the rough draft.

One of my teachers is pressuring me to submit it to a publisher. A lot of my teachers are talking about it. It’s 211 pages. It started off by me asking my English teacher to read it and critique it. After handing her the rough draft, it took her about 4-5 months to complete it, but when she started, she says she couldn’t stop. She then got a lot of the teachers in the English department to read it. They all loved it and some even helped me edit it. My principal then asked to read it (I go to a fairly large school, 2,200 students). My teachers really like it and like discussing it with me.

I finished it two weeks ago.

I wrote it as part of NaNoWriMo, but never published it.

You have too many extracurricular activities, which may show that you are only trying to do them for university applications and that you don’t have too much commitment to them.

I do have a commitment to them. Should I just not report a few?

It is just my opinion that if you were doing 13 extracurricular activities (as you say in your first post) in grade 11, you likely were not able to give a lot of time to them. Universities may think you were just trying to accumulate them to increase your chances. I am not sure, but I think you should report most of them but focus on some of the more important ones (where you committed more time) in your personal statement, essay etc (if you talk about them in there).

Oh. Okay. I gotcha, @wannabefeynman‌ . What are my chances at the UCs to begin with, though?

Your GPA is slightly low, but your extracurricular activities are very good if you can show that you have committed deeply to even a few of them. Your SAT is also good. Due to that, I think you have good chances at all of those universities. UCB, UCLA etc are worth apply if you wish to go there. If you were contemplating not applying just because of your chances, I think you should apply.

Oh, sweet!

So, I’m guessing LA and B are mid to high reaches? What about the others? And what would universities think about my Cs?

I would say reach, not high reach. Your marks are about the only negative aspect of your application. Obviously they negatively affected your GPA, but it does not seem too bad. It will reduce your chances at UCB and UCLA, but I think your GPA is around their average. What is your UC GPA?

My UC GPA is a solid 3.9 :|

That is a decent UC GPA.

I know, but what are my chances?

I know that I’m good, but how good am I? For Davis, SB, Irvine, Berkeley, LA, NYU, Santa Clara, etc… What are my chances?

Btw, thanks for the help, @wannabefeynman‌ !!

Oh, I’m also First Generation! And North African? Like, Moroccan/Libyan.

I’m posting this because although my gap is “low,” I have great extra curricular activities,

UCLA/UCB - High reach
UCSD/UCD - Reach
UCI/UCSB - Match

UCLA/UCB - Reach
UCSD/UCD/UCI/UCSB - Match

Make sure to show on your application that you are committed to your extracurricular activities.

Nice. I like UCSD and Davis! Would matching with those make Santa Cruz a safety? Statistically speaking, if were to apply to B and LA, would the law of averages get me into one of them?
