second question: When is the best time to complete housing applications by? Do most freshman get their first choice?

I’ll be living in the Bouve LLC next year, too. I’d love to hear some opinions on it!

@bkyriakides- what are you majoring in?

DPT, what about you?

@ bkyriakides- cool, I’m doing PharmD. :)

I know the Bouve LLC is recommended for those enrolled in Bouve college, but that’s about all I know about it. I’m actually still kind of unsure what the difference is between a regular dorm and a LLC. Are LLCs only for freshman?

Is there anyone who has lived, is currently living, or knows someone in Bouve who could provide information and opinions, please?

My daughter is a freshman nursing student and lives in the Bouve LLC. This year it’s located in Stetson West which is an all freshmen dorm. A few floors of this dorm make up the LLC which has really helped her meet other nursing students (she’s made friendships with several pharmacy students, also) A few floors house freshmen in other majors. It’s really a typical freshmen dorm and she loves it. Many of the students in the LLC hang out and study together. I have visited a few times and have found the dorm to be very clean. My daughter tells me the students have fun but do spend a good amount of time studying because the course load is challenging. The dorm is located in a great location, has a cafeteria in the lower level and is right near the gym and the green line.

My daughter is also a nursing student living in Stetson W and I agree with all the comments mentioned above. I was also surprised how quiet the dorm is (although I haven’t been there on Friday or Saturday nights). My daughter said overall it’s pretty quiet and has had no complaints overall. She has a new RA this semester (she was surprised because the other one never said a word that she was leaving). I don’t think the RAs have organized many activities but my daughter doesn’t seem to mind as her and her friends are either studying, exploring the city or just hanging out.

Thank you so much Neumom and kb1001 for the responses! Thanks for clearing up my confusion about LLCs. So it’s basically just a couple floors of a dorm devoted to a certain interest or major? That’s really good that it’s quiet enough to get studying done, has a cafeteria and gym, and is located close to the green line transportation. Is Stetson W within close walking distance of most freshman classes? And how early do you suggest submitting housing applications?

I believe we waited until the end of April (was it a May 1st deadline?) before we submitted housing application, deposit etc. I honestly don’t know if it made a difference in where my daughter was placed. It has all worked out fine and she has never complained about walking to any of her classess. I think the dorm is in a great location.

We sent the housing and enrollment deposits in around mid-April. As for the distance to classes from Stetson West, my daughter said she can get to any of her classes in 10 min. tops.

As a side note for Highachiever973, I’m not sure if you were accepted into the Honors program or not…if so, congratulations! If not, you are in good company. Several of my daughters friends at Northeastern living in Stetson West, who are nursing, pharm, business and undecided majors who ranked in top ten of their senior class (one was valedictorian) were not invited into the honors program. It goes to show how accomplished the students are at this school. My daughter is loving Northeastern.

Yes, the deadline is still May 1, I believe. It looks like I have plenty of time to submit deposits then, since both your daughters submitted deposits around April and still ended up enrolled in Bouve.

@Neumom- Sadly I wasn’t admitted into the honors program, even though I was in the top 3% of my class. It would have been nice to have been admitted, but I figure I can always apply second semester to the program anyway if I wanted to, right? And with all the information you’ve given me, it seems as though I could be just as happy living in Stetson West in the Bouve LLC. It’s really hard to find flaws with NEU. :)

The Bouve LLC sounds great, but I was wondering:

Do the people who were both admitted into the Honors Program and the Pharmacy program choose to live in IV or the Bouve LLC? Which one would be more helpful?

Thanks!

@illusiondestiny- I think (not sure) that all honors students have to live in IV freshman year.

highachiever793: I have heard that all honors have to live in IV, but isn’t it possible to reject your invitation into the Honors program and opt to live in the Bouve LLC?

I just did some more research, and there’s a “Science, Technology, and Human Values” LLC in the Honors Program that is similar to the Bouve LLC. However, will I miss out on more pharmacy-related opportunities by staying in the Science and Technology LLC rather than the Bouve one? In NEU’s brochure on LLCs, they say that those in the Bouve LLCs had chances to tour local pharmacies and other stuff. http://www.northeastern.edu/reslife/pdf/LLC_Brochure_2010.pdf

Yeah, it’s possible, but in my opinion, I wouldn’t reject your honors invitation just based on potential dorms.

As for whether honors students get to tour local pharmacies and stuff like Bouve students, I don’t know. But I don’t think you should reject honors because of that. All Northeastern pharmacy students will have to gain experience in local pharmacies anyway.
