Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to visit Yale yet, in addition to other schools. One of the most important aspects of a school to me is the culture of the place. Does anyone know what the overall student body culture and school is like at Yale? (ie: competitiveness, obsession with grades, etc.)

I’m not sure how much help I’ll be (I only went to Bulldog Days), but if I were to compare it to the 3 days I spent on the Princeton campus for the Admitted Students weekend, I’d say Yale students seem more chill than Princeton students. Yalies tended to have a better sense of humor and were overall more laid back. Also, older students at Yale seemed friendlier, and not as irritated by the pre-frosh running around haphazardly on campus. Princeton had a little bit of a standoffish attitude toward the pre-frosh who were more outgoing or talkative, like myself, whereas people at Yale gladly welcomed pre-frosh who were different from the mix of over-anxious and socially awkward types. It was almost as if you had to prove you were “cool” enough to get into the exclusive clique that is Princeton, being accepted there apparently wasn’t enough to warrant your worth. Again, that could have just been my experience. I don’t know if my experience is reflective of the overall culture, but that’s what I gathered from it. Hope it helps!

Genuinely not competitive (versus people putting on the appearance of being care-free when secretly they are ultra competitive). I dated someone at another top college and everyone walked around like nothing concerned them – but reality was people freaked out constantly in private.

Obsessed w/learning more than grades, I found (not that grades didn’t matter). That was my experience.
