What is the Difference Between Newark and New Brunswick Business School?

I am an accounting major right now at a different university and I am considering Rutgers for graduate school. I would like to earn a master’s degree in accounting, which I know is only offered by Newark. However, I have heard a lot of negativity about Newark from other people and I think maybe I should not apply.

I am confused though… When I look up the MS program, it says Rutgers Business School - Newark AND New Brunswick… I see that there are two business schools – one in newark and the other I think on the livingston campus (I am not from NJ so I am not familiar with the school). The name suggests, though, that they operate as one. So here is what I am wondering:

Is it basically the same school (the business school)? What are the differences if there are any? I am so confused about this lol.

Rutgers Business School in the Newark Campus and New Brunswick campus are one in the same. If you go to both of their buildings, it is written in their signs as ‘Rutgers Business School Newark & New Brunswick.’

When you graduate from RBS, your diploma won’t specify what campus you attended. It will simply say “Rutgers Business School Newark & New Brunswick.”

The only difference is, since New Brunswick is the flagship campus of Rutgers, it is more competitive than the business school in Newark. I guess you could say that the New Brunswick campus is held to a higher regard.

I would call and ask. It wasn’t immediately obvious from the website. There are also four different specialized graduate accounting programs there and they may be offered at different campuses.

I grew up in the shadow of Newark and attended Rutgers-NB (many years ago). Both communities were much more sketchy back in the 80s and both have improved markedly, although I think that New Brunswick is still nicer as a town. However, Newark is really close to NYC by mass transit. New Brunswick will take you a good 1-1.5 hours by train.

The program is highly ranked and has a strong alumni network.

Thanks for the responses!

I have always been interested in Rutgers and I was unfortunately denied admission for my undergrad into the new brunswick accounting program, but I was offered to go to newark or camden. I am just wondering if it’s sort of like a SUNY type of thing where there are different campuses, however they all still contain the name “SUNY.”

When I saw the label of Rutgers Business School - Newark and New Brunswick, I was confused on what this meant. What confused me further was seeing that ONLY Newark offered an MS in accounting, so if they are operating as one, then why does only one campus have the program?
