My daughter applied to University Park, and got in on the Summer session? I wanted to know are they the same thing, or entirely different and how? If they are different can she do both? Would you recommend doing both?

Thanks

You can read about it here: http://www.leap.psu.edu/

Basically its summer session toned for incoming freshmen. She doesn’t have to I dont believe, but theres not a reason to not. You’re put into a “pride” of 25 people and you kind of make friends with the during the summer, take 2 classes, and get acclimated to college life together, etc. A lot of people make good friends with leap. Heres PSU’s answer to LEAP and summer session:

“NO! LEAP is a choice each student makes by registering for LEAP 097 courses. LEAP is a special program which creates a small-college atmosphere within the larger University by fostering a sense of community. Of the first-year students who will begin their studies at Penn State University Park this summer, more than half will participate in LEAP. In the past, well over 80% of LEAP students were glad they participated! The program is only for first year students who have already been offered fall or summer admission to Penn State University Park, and only takes place during the summer. Students admitted for fall must contact the Admissions Office to change to summer admission.”

“summer session” is just code for classes during the summer anyone could take to catch up, get ahead, etc.

My daughter did LEAP and loved it! She said it was the best summer. She made a lot of friends and got acclimated to the campus. I think LEAP is better for Freshman, rather than the regular summer session.
