What is the difference between undergraduate and graduate sports business programs?

If anything? I'm trying to decide between going to the best business school I can get into undergrad (to major in another kind of business) and go to a sports business program like Oregon in grad school or whether I should go to a slightly lesser undergrad business program (like UO) and be able to double major undergrad and be able to get into the job market faster. Thanks

I hate to do this but, bump

First off, UO’s sports business school is Sports Marketing only. Not Sports Management. You’ll get some management stuff, but it’s primarily focused on the marketing aspects of sport, not the compliance, management, operations, etc. What field do you ultimately want to end up in? If you want to be an agent, find a Sports Mgmt school, same for compliance officer, athletic director, operations director, etc. You can get these positions w/ a sports marketing degree, but it’s a bit harder.

I would recommend going to an undergrad program w/ a sports management major. Working in athletics (especially collegiate and professional) is 99% about who you know and can they vouch for you. Studying under profs who have great contacts in the industry and at a school that will get you good internship positions will give you a better chance of getting a solid job after graduation. Most grad school programs in SM will look for at least a couple years of experience in a sports setting, unless you’ve had a strong sports job while an undergrad.

Not saying you can’t get into a graduate SM program with a regular business degree or can’t get a job in sports, but it’s going to be that much more difficult b/c of the lack of connections.

Thanks a lot. I sent you a PM, if you can provide any insight on that stuff I sent you I’d greatly appreciate it.
