I hesitate between "Asian, including Indian Subcontinent" and "Other".
And furthermore, I don't necessarily believe I am Arab. My parents are 100% Lebanese and it is a firm belief that the people of Lebanon are not to be grouped with Arabs because of many differences in culture.

So. I know that that part is optional, but I am very proud of my "ethnicity", whatever it may be and wish to include it on the common app.

Some Lebanese (predominantly Maronite Christians, but also some Muslims) also reject the label Arab in favor of a more narrowly defined Phoenician-Aramaean-based Lebanese identity.

I had a similar problem. I was told, as an Afghan, to put Caucasian. Doesn't the common application have an area where you can specify the country?

Don't stress it. It sounds like you don't really want to put Asian (inc. Indian subcontinent) for cultural reasons. Put OTHER and specify Lebanon.

I heard Lebanese and Persian are not considered Arabs from my English class(for grammar review) teacher. He is teaching a lot of rich Arabs at the local college.

LOL! What is this, the battle of the wikipedia links? Don't you guys know that many articles are not reliable (I'm waiting for someone to post up a wikipedia link that tells me how wrong I am)

The race is Caucasian. Lebanese is not Asian (even if on a map it is in Asia). I don't have a map in front of me but that was in another post. ^^

The reason why I hesitate to put Asian is because it suggests nothing about Middle Eastern people! It's too broad, and like most people, suggests "Oriental". Now the new addition of "including Indian Subcontinent" actually makes it more confusing because it includes Indians and Pakistanis and Bangladeshis along with the Orientals...but Lebanon and other Arab countries are NOT Indian Subcontinent.

And certainly NOT Caucasian.
And I disagree with me being Arab.
There's a huge debate between Lebanese themselves about who's Arab and who's not. I don't know where the line falls, but my parents always told me, you're Lebanese, not Arab. BIG cultural differences. I'm not Armenian, I'm Beiruti (from the capital), and Beirutis trace generations and generations back to...well, Beirut. Not Turkey, not Armenia, not Syria, not Palestine.

I'm not Asian. I'm not Caucasian. What is LEBANESE?!

"The race is Caucasian. Lebanese is not Asian (even if on a map it is in Asia). I don't have a map in front of me but that was in another post. ^^"

Exactly. I'm Persian and was totally confused for a while too. Trust me, you're Caucasian.
