<p>I am 100% Lebanese...NOT Arab. There is no such thing as Arab. It is one of the most offensive words to me. Are Americans or Australians considered English? Are Equadorians or Argentinians considered Spanish? Arabic is a language. Obviously, there is more in common between say Egypt and Sudan than there is between Egypt and England, just as there is more in common between the England and the US than there is between England and Egypt. However, the word Arab is very vague.</p>

<p>As far as the US is concerned, Middle Easterners and Near Easterns are considered Caucasian, not Asian or African.</p>

Yes, the United States ethnic and racial categories put people who live in the Levant (Near East) or the western central Asia (the Middle East) in the "white" category. Answering an ethnic or racial identification form is always OPTIONAL. </p>
