What is the Honors College looking for?

Hello!

I was working on my app for he honors college and honestly, I am not even sure if it is worth it. I excel at ACT, EC's and hopefully my essay. I also have the AP/IB classes and scores to back it up. But my GPA is lacking that quality. I haven't calculated my UCF GPA because I'm not sure if it is based on just core classes or not, but overall, I know its for sure less than 4.0. So what is their main focus. Would my other good categories outweigh the GPA? I don't want to sound like I know all those subjective things are good, but I know I fit, if not exceed, the bill in the other sections.

UCF gpa is all your core and foreign language…that is it. You get .5 for an A in Honors…1.0 for IB/AICE/AP. The most you will get valued on any A is a 5.0. I do know the average UCF weighted GPA was at least a 4.23 last year for Burnett. I have seen your stats and know you do excel in your ACT score.

And is it all core and language, or a set amount. ie, your highest? I only ask because I have excess credits.

All core, including core electives from what I have been told. Listen, my CR +M was a 1320/1600{under the average for Burnett}but my weighted UCF GPA was slightly above the average. My leadership, service hours. EC’s. and essay were strong, so I do think they take everything into account. Of course, a bit more weight probably goes towards GPA and test scores.

Okay! And I figured more weight went to the two, but I’m just really hoping my ACT will cover it. I went through a lot of family, and personal medical drama my Junior year and while I am on track to finish strong this semester (Most of my courses are over, just in review time now) I don’t want one bad year to define me.

Good for you! Your ACT is great…you have to go for it!!!
