What is the point of canceling SAT/SAT Subject Test scores?

I just took two SAT Subject tests yesterday, and I feel like I did pretty bad on one of them. Since there is now Score Choice where you can choose to send whichever scores to colleges, what is the point of canceling your test score?

The only real point I could see is if you are sending them to a college directly (for example if you are a senior taking it in November sending the score report directly to the colleges you are applying to) but I THINK, you could just cancel the report, although I am not sure.

@thesoxpride10‌ So since I’m a sophomore, i should just wait and get my scores?

Definitely wait. You gain nothing by cancelling and you lose your other scores. You already paid the 45 bucks to take the test, you already sat through the test, and even if you don’t do well in it you can choose not to send it to colleges in two years. And who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised by your score.

Alright, thanks for your input!

A few schools require that u send the scores of all the SAT tests you’ve taken. So if you have taken the SAT 5 times, you have to send all 5 scores; you can’t cherry-pick.

@GMTplus7‌ can you give me an example of some of the schools that require this?

Keep in mind this list is two years old, but it is generally correct. Again, I feel for most schools score choice instead of cancelling is a much better choice as only a few schools require you to submit all sat scores, and many only have that policy for the main sat, not subject tests.

Top schools that DO NOT Accept Score Choice:

UNIVERSITIES:

Carnegie Mellon University
Cornell University
Georgetown University
University of California campuses
University of Pennsylvania
Rice University
Stanford University
Yale University

LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGES:

Colgate University
Harvey Mudd College
Macalester College
Pomona College

Others:

All SUNY and CUNYs

@shawnspencer‌ @skieurope‌ Would these apply for the subject tests too?

Depends on the school. I’d call up the admissions office or check the website of the school you are applying to. Some of them can be rather ambiguous. Colgate, for example, when I emailed them stated:

“We do not require any SAT II subject tests. We require either the SAT or the ACT not both. We ask that you send all scores but we only record the highest for our purposes.”

I ended up not applying because I didn’t feel like emailing them back asking if you should send the sat II if you have taken them, but I’m sure most admissions offices will be quite helpful.

As stated above, check wiih the school. I know Stanford lets you send only the SAT subject test you choose, and that Yale and UPenn require all subject test scores.

Thanks @shawnspencer‌ and @skieurope‌ both of you were really helpful
