Hello, I am a just entering high school student but I feel it is vital to be prepared for the future, especially something as important as college. I know that I have to start diong things now that will improve my chances of getting in when the time comes. Are there any clubs or activities that would improve my chances? Any tips? I am pretty much decided on Brown but if there are any other TOP schools that offer Enviornmental Studies courses please let me know. And does Brown offer photography under it’s visual art program? I’m sure it does, but it doesn’t hurt to check. I plan on doing swimming and equestrian for my sports, debate club, robotics, art club, drama, Model UN and electirc music clubs, and guitar and photography for my arts but any other tips on extracurriculars would be really terriffic! Also, I am in IB (international baccalaurete). Is there anyone from brown who was in it? Is it helpful to my admission chances? And what about financial aid? I can’t afford college without a full scholarship, is Brown good with financial aid and scholarships? And how is the Italian program at Brown? How about the African Studies? I want to have a career with animals (undomesticated) probably in Africa. I am really interested in saving endangered species. I also want to do photography, specifically animal photography which ties in with my animal career. Gosh, I’ve written alot. I really appreciate any help, thanks!

Woah, slow down. You just started high school? You should not be "pretty much decided on Brown." You still have over two years to decide what colleges to apply to, three years to decide where to go, five years to decide on your major, and seven years to figure out what you want to do after college.

Here's my advice to you. Do the clubs and extracurriculars that interest you in high school. Take challenging classes and work hard in them. Do your best to use your high school experience to open up your mind to as many kinds of positive academic and non-academic experiences as possible. Worry less about what will get you into college, and more about what will make you a smart, educated, and fulfilled person. The combination of your passion, drive, and hard work will get you into college.

I admire the fact that you've got your life all planned out and seem really motived and driven. However, you're still young (14? 15?). All of your dreams and ambitions could change completely within the next few years or the next few months. Take this time to enjoy your life and challenge yourself, and come back to CC in two years when you really need to start thinking about college.

ditto.

just keep good grades and be active. there's nothing that will guarantee you admission into college...well, unless you go and win a nobel prize or something ;)

Get one or two big things to commit to. My D did stage crew and girl scouts - both of which she feels passionately about - and spent oodles of time on.

No offense...but u are not suppose to start a tactic on how to improve your chances but rather participate in the activities that u have interests in and have passion for. .... don't let college design who u are!!! just relax ...it would all glue together in the end if u utilized urself to the fullest
