okay, first off, I SUCK AT MATH. There, I said it. I was never a math genius; I always struggled in math throughout elementary school. In Middle School, however, I got my act together and always made A+'s in 6th and 7th grade. But, at the end of 8th grade, I noticed a decline in my work as I got a 96 and a 95 first and second semesters (respectively). I thought I would do better in high school, but NO! I was wrong. I did so bad on the first math quiz of the year that I won't even say what I got. On that quiz, I KNEW HOW TO DO EVERYTHING, but I ran out of time and didn't finish. Everyone was asking, "What did you get, what did you get?" to me because they KNEW I screwed up. I realized that I had to increase my speed, so I practiced problems for 2 hours in order to prepare for the test. Sucks right, I had to actually STUDY for a MATH test. But I was desperate and needed that 100. So on test day, I confidently took my test and meticulously did all the problems again once I finished. But guess what. I GOT A 90. SERIOUSLY, A 90. How is that even possible, I KNEW HOW TO DO EVERY PROBLEM ON THE QUIZ. WHEN I DID THOSE PRACTICE PROBLEMS (100+ probably) I LOOKED AT THE ANSWER KEY AND I DIDN'T MISS A SINGLE ONE!!! IF I UNDERSTOOD THE MATERIAL, THEN WHY SHOULD I NOT GET A GOOD GRADE?

I wasn't asking for a 100, but I feel that I deserved more than a 90. And it wasn't just ONE careless error, I made mistakes throughout the whole test AND I got the bonus wrong. Here's an example of one of the problems I missed: (7i - 4) - (8i + 2)
I MULTIPLIED instead of ADDING/SUBTRACTING. WHY DOES THIS ONLY HAPPEN TO ME?!?!?!?!?!

And this carelessness isn't just in math. Throughout my life, I have lost my phone, my wallet, and tons of other important AND unimportant stuff AT LEAST 10 times each. I've lost my phone & wallet AT LEAST 50 TIMES EACH.

This is not a troll post. If you were in my situation, you would understand how terrible I feel. It's been happening all my life, and I am sick of it. Why do I just carelessly go through things? And how can I actually pay attention for once? Do I have a mental issue? I seriously doubt that anyone has lost his/her phone 50 times.

Pls help :(

Tl;dr I am very careless and it's affecting many aspects of my life as well as causing me stress. How can I stay focused all the time and not screw up anymore?

I feel you. Math has never been my strong suit either and I almost make careless errors. My only advice would be to pay attention to detail more and go over all the questions on your tests. If you study hard, you probably won’t have an issue with time and you can look over your answers. It’s something that I wish I did more often, but I almost always chose to hand in my test early and sit there doing nothing as opposed to looking over my answers. Just stay dedicated. And put a tracking device on your phone.

You’re taking accelerated math 2? I’m just now taking it. I sort of know where you’re coming from, math is beating my *** this year. Did you check your answers before you turned it in? A lot of my mistakes stop if I spend 5 minutes to check.

I’m sorry Yakisoba but I can relate. I could’ve cared less about math in 6th grade XD but in 7th & 8th grades I actually “tried” and got a 95 in math. I still suck at math (I personally believe). But no, I got a damn 94 in SCIENCE. I was so mad because my class was so obnoxious, disrespected my science teacher; and as a result couldn’t teach effectively. Yeah, that’s why my class got the title of craziest class in our year book -_-. It lowered my self-esteem especially not getting any of the 4 science awards at graduation. Though I’m proud because I always got the highest test scores but it WAS THE DAMN QUIZZES that ultimately bought my grade down. So I’m ok; I know I’m good. But in math, I just don’t know.
The moral of this story that isn’t implied is to study. Just say, " I’ll do better next time". I use my bad grades as fuel to make me more determined to do better & you should do the same :)

Whoa. Chill out. It’s the first quiz of the year. In calculus last year, my first quiz grade was about a 70. I still finished the class with an A and got an easy 5 on the AP Exam. A grade of 90 is NOT a bad grade. At my school, that’s an A, and that counts toward your GPA exactly the same amount as a 100.

If you make a lot of careless errors, try this: as you’re doing homework, check your answers with the back of the book. If you get a wrong answer, find the error in your calculation. Make a note of it (be it physical or mental, whatever works for you), and keep it in mind as you work through subsequent problems. Eventually, you’ll learn to recognize where you normally make errors and can be more cautious there.

Really though, it’s not the end of the world. Not even close.

@ScienceKid99 man, you are making fun of me! I faced significant failure all my life in biology and finally recovered from it.
My teacher asked me once:

“how many variations are there in cells?”
well I was confused.

Why perceive it as so? I wasn’t making fun of you… I was happy because you were happy about what grade you had gotten… Why would I make fun of you?

Oh… I curse my tendency to doubt myself (I thought you were playing but some side of me said nope) I’m sorry
But it’s also good to know you we’re :)
