Why is it that UW's football and basketball teams are always underachieving so badly?? It's not as if they don't have the recruits, but somehow, despite constant promises that they will pick up, they never have. Is there any hope for them at all? Since I'm a mich and north carolina fan for football and bball respectively, I don't want to have to root for a loser team. Although I still love my high school teams even though they lose against our big rivals often like UW does, it would still be great to be able to brag about my school's team. I don't want to have to constantly say, "just wait till next year", because from what it looks like, that next year always is the year after that...

you just follow the wrong sports. basketball is to UNC as women's crew is to udub. :)

It's been a frustrating year or so..that's for sure. But our memories tend to be short. Remember....our B-ball team was in the "sweet 16" in 05 and 06....not so long ago. Last year was indeed tough after all the hype (and subsequent implosion) of our legendary recruited class-Hawes, etc. But Romar has, without question, done great things for our program. Being selected as one of the top four #1 seeds in '05...that's nothing to be ashamed of.
Football has struggled since all the sanctions, no doubt about it. But it takes a while to rebuild. We have a HUGE football history, and President Emmert has made it very clear (firing our Athletic Director - who apparently wasn't putting enough emphasis on getting football back on track) that we WILL be back on top, and soon. He was at LSU before he came to the UW, so you can be sure he understands the importance of a good team at a football school. We have more Rose Bowl appearances than any other pac-10 team besides USC and we are right even in appearances with Michigan and Ohio State. Gosh, not so bad.
Yeah, it's been a little frustrating. I would guess that most schools have "down" times. Just try to look at the bright side. Jake Locker is the REAL deal-no one doubts it. And for the first time in years, we just grabbed almost every single one of the top 10 Washington recruits. They all want to play with Jake, and stay in Washington. The way it always used to be. Oh yeah, and....at least we didn't have to suffer the humiliation of getting beaten by Appalachian State. See, things could be worse!

haha yeah right...you would have lost to app state if you played them as well you know...

You might be right. We would have hung with them for the first half...and then it would have been time to turn off the TV. Hopefully, Locker will get his passing range figured out this next year and that would help us balance our attack.

BTW--my Michigan comment was meant to be very tongue-in-cheek. I think Michigan is a great school, and, in fact, very very similar to the UW. But, I also believe it gets it's due, and for various reasons (mainly, geographical isolation), the UDub hasn't--though I think that is changing. Depending on the program, I don't see much/any difference between the education you would realistically get from either. Both are well rounded schools, academically strong in almost all areas. All three of my Ca. kids looked at both, along with UNC (another great one). But I think UW's accessibility to Seattle and all it offers is huge, along with a big weather advantage (and you can't say that about too many other schools when you speak of weather in Seattle!)

OK..just looked at Ca-love8's posts and see that Michigan isn't even being considered. HAHA. Don't want to redo post however, so please disregard if not interested........

Good luck on UDub. It is a gem.

haha, interesting posts on Michigan. IMO Mich is slightly academically superior (programs ranking in the top 10 at Michigan far outnumber those of UW), but, as you said, both are AWESOME in virtually all areas. For medicine, UW is incredible, one that few unis in the country can compete with.

Haha, funny you should mention the weather too, i actually prefer Michigan's to Seattle's, 34 straight days of rain is TOO MUCH!

"Good luck on UDub. It is a gem."

Very true!
