wait sweetgirl how long has your application been “awaiting review”. mine went from initial review to review i think on the 12th of jan and i have no idea why only some people get the “review” status before “received”. i have a transcript from a school in europe and i also emailed about a change of major… maybe that has something to do with it?

and uw doesn’t look at transcripts or anything until they accept you, so mid year reports do not matter to them. otherwise i would have a problem.

Igi, don’t worry. All I was trying to say that I don’t think these early acceptances has anything to do with high test scores or GPA. It all depends on luck on when they read your application, I guess.

Mine has been “awaiting review” for a couple of weeks. I think the process is this:

Initial Review

Review

Received all materials and will inform as soon as the decision is made (which I think means that they wait to look at other applications before they accept/deny you).

Decision have been made and will be sent to you in a few days (which I think happens right after the review process for those who are guarenteed in and then for those whose decisions are foggy, after step 3 happens).

“But then there are those who got like SAT scores above 2200 and have a 4.0 GPA who still haven’t gotten in.”

That does make me feel a little better. I’m quite qualified stat-wise, except I kinda screwed up the app (typos&grammatical mistakes etc, though contacted admission office later and resent the fixed info), so I am pretty anxious about my chance as more days pass by without a decision from them. I used to think my stats should guarentee my admission by Jan/Feb, otherwise they must have taken those typos pretty seriously. Now knowing that there are people who are even more qualified and have not made mistakes elsewhere in the same boat as me, I am hoping that the AC just haven’t had a chance to look over those apps (including mine) and will not look into my typos too much when they get to them…

But I have been at the “received” stage for 2weeks now…and I really thought my stats are solid enough for guarenteed admission. But since that “finalized desicion” wasn’t made right away, I guess I was just being over-confident. (should’ve realized how much my SAT really sucked…)

I just need something from them already, whether an acceptance or a rejection…so I can stop agonizing over the status and their desicion-making process.

I can sympathize with the wait, agony and frustration because it’s a long wait. You have to realize the majority of people won’t hear anything until March or so. Those that have already found out were the very bright ones (per UW standards) and those that happened to have their application read by the right person at the right time.

Two years ago my twins applied both in mid November. My daughter was admitted to UW in early December and then ultimately the honors program. My son didn’t get his letter until April.

Now my youngest daughter applied 11/23. Her status changed to “we have received” on 12/8 and it’s been this way ever since. I am fairly confident she’ll get in, she is above the averages on all the stats and had great essays. But I don’t think she’ll get the letter anytime soon. Though I wish she would to calm her down! They have 20000+ applications to go through and the process is done by people, lots of people, and it takes a while. Yes, a few people will continue to get notified this month, next month etc. But the majority of people will get notified in March/April. That’s how it was 2 years ago and that’s how it was last year.

I wish everyone good luck, but take a deep breath and relax. You have no control over when your application will be read and your time will come!

Congrats carusok! My daughter is an honors peer mentor and a figlet leader! She loves the honors program. A mentor will contact you at some point - be sure to ask questions and utilize their resources. They are a wealth of information. For those that don’t know a figlet is a mini fig…many honors students aren’t eligible for a fig because they’ve placed out of certain math classes etc. But a figlet is a mini class where you get to know the ins and outs of the university and have a fun time learning cool stuff about the honors program (great speakers) all while earning 2 credits!

Applied: December 1st
“Awaiting Initial Review”: Dec 1st - Jan 8th (abt 6 weeks)
“Received Materials”: January 8th
“Reviewed Application”: January 28th

My honors acceptance came in a standard plain envelope with the UW honors return address. Didn’t know it was the acceptance letter until I started reading.

My unofficial transcript hasn’t loaded yet, but I got the “reviewed application” status…how long does it take for the unofficial transcript to load? I’m getting a bit nervous now…

congrats carusok! I got my welcome packet and honors letter the same day as you! or the day after… i forget. Haha anyway, it was about the same time. Do you think you’ll be headed to UW next year? (Might have missed that memo in another post x.x)

Yeah, you can’t tell from the outside envelope if the letter is pretty stealthy… I almost thought it was a letter telling me they were missing some information.

hey jkaplan,
if it makes you feel any better, i know a person who has similar stats as you and is still at the same status as well.
i think we need to wait for Feb. UW has only accepted the top 10%(according to someone i know and has talked with one of the ppl in UW staff) so far and has more to look over.
i hate waiting too… :'(
