I am planning on attending a two-year CC down in IL before applying to UIUC as a Sociology major/transfer. What kind of gpa do you guys think I will need in order to get in? Illinois is an in-state school for me as well, which is why I want to go here along with the fact that many of my friends will attend U of I next year.

Go here and explore transger requirements. Sociology is in “All other Programs” under College of Liberal Arts & Sciences: [U of I Admissions: Transfer Handbook](Page Not Found, Illinois Undergraduate Admissions)

You will have to meet certain course requirements and have at least a 2.7 college average. That gets you considered not necessarily in and you may need higher. Transfer admission and how hiigh a GPA you really need depends heavily on number of open seats available for the program when you go to apply and how many apply for them, and that varies from year to year.

What GPA would you suggest? 3.5?

3.75 or above is usually safe.

Aim for a 4.0 for scholarship purposes but a 3.5 and up should do the trick
