What looks better on a student's transcript- a "P" or a "70"

I took an AP History class and I had an average of a 70. My principal gave me the option to switch my 70 for a “P” on my transcript. Which grade looks better to colleges? She offered me the same option for physiology.

Well, a P won’t harm your GPA, so that is good. But that option is usually reserved for kids with IEPs and similar. If you were applying to a really selective college, it might raise eyebrows, but if not, then I would take the P. Two Ps is a little worrisome. Do you have an ed. plan?

I would say a P is probably better, but two P/F classes isn’t great.

“P” is just short for “Pass,” and is usually given to students who finish the class successfully without getting an F.

I’d say P is better, but don’t forget that colleges will certainly notice that the class on which you will have a P mark was not a “Pass or Fail” class like a Driver Education class or Physical Education, as the mark will be on an AP class.

I don’t know…neither will look great. I agree with the above posters, a “P” may be a red flag (or at least a flag) to adcoms since it is an AP class…I guess you should just take the P since it’s an option, but it might hurt you a little. Though I’m not sure if it will hurt you more than a 70 will, so it’s worth a shot!

I’d too go with the P, although a college counselor once told me that ADCOMS automatically convert a P to a C. But the trend these days is for colleges to allow at least one class P/F to encourage students to take risks and classes outside their comfort zone so that they will take on challenges. Less and less, the "P"is being frowned upon.
