Math 2C - 800
Chemistry - 800
Literature - 800

My best friend is taking her SAT IIs next month and wants to apply to Harvard RD. She took Literature already but claims she didn't study at all when she got the 780 (though I don't know how true that is...)

She wants to retake to get an 800, but can't decide if it's worth it or not (especially when she could take Biology instead, and submit four subject tests rather than three). Assuming she could study and get an 800 on Lit, would it be worth it? Or would colleges value another subject test more than they would 20 points on the Literature? I really don't know what to tell her since I'm not an expert on the subject. :/

Edit: She was homeschooled, so she feels subject tests are particularly important to prove to colleges her qualifications are up to snuff.

If she already had 2 800’s and a 780 she’s all set. If she is hell bent on taking more subject tests then take the Bio exam. Retaking the Lit just to get 20 extra pts. is silly. A 780 in Lit is a very good score.

I’ve let her know what you’ve said so far and she said her biggest concern is backing up her transcript with standardized scores because she doesn’t think her GPA will mean much without them.

FWIW: Most Admissions Offices use test scores as a double-check on a student’s GPA. For example, a student with all A’s on their high transcript should have SAT test scores and SAT Subject scores in the range of 700 to 800.

What is concerning is your friend’s overestimation of the value that H will place on such a ridiculous event – to try to move a 780 to an 800 when she already has 3x 800s.

This screams “test taking drone”. She’d be better off going to weed her garden or go visit the comic book store or take the dog on a long walk or sit at home and watch recorded “Judge Judy” episodes than to do something as inane as this. This would HURT her IMHO.
