I was in software engineering, but I really didn't get into. I'm thinking getting into a business major. I always want to work in hedge funds or investment banking or mutual funds, something in investing, ever since high school. I heard finance would be great, but I read on the internet that econ is better some how. Please tell me what is the best and benefits and what is the best choice also I'm going to double major, I declared MIS as other major, so is MIS is a good degree too?

I also heard bad things about mis too on internet and that its not a good major

Research. Start by looking at the major firms in that industry. Look at the rankings in financial and other business news sites.

What company(s) would you like to work for?
What kind of jobs do they offer?
What major and/or experience do they want?
What major do the really successful people in the company hold?

Economics is more of a traditional major than finance which is comparatively modern. Economics is quite focused where finance is much broader and economics is just one strand. Finance is breadth, economics depth.

First of all, I’d like to say MIS is one of the most hired majors at my school. Over 90% employment rate. Also, depending on the school and the person, it can be incredibly difficult. At my school for an example, getting into the MIS major is difficult and has its own coursework that would be pretty hard to double major in, especially since one cannot get into the business school until they are in their Junior year and most people don’t get accepted.

Why would you want to double major, I’m curious? I assume that Econ/Finance and MIS don’t have a lot of overlap, minus the first two years of pre-business coursework. It would take more than four years to graduate with that being said. What would the MIS get you on top of Finance or Econ? If the statistics are still correct and unchanged (meaning MIS is still highly desired and I heard Finance is desired too) what would be the point? Most likely you would be able to get a Finance job and not need to work in MIS, especially since they don’t even work similar things at businesses.

I would choose either or since they are not the same. If you want to work for hedge funds, go for Finance? If you want to work on computers all day, go for MIS.

Take the finance it is broad compared to economics,.
