Just some background information: I'm a community college student currently doing my general coursework. I'm in a transfer program so I will be applying to different colleges when I'm done, which means that I can choose where to go based on what major is right for me and I'm not choosing based on the college I'm currently at.

Basically, I've been wondering for a long time now what I should do in terms of a career, and I've most recently decided I'd love to be a web developer. I took a class on web development in high school and I found myself saying "if I could do this all day and get paid for it, I'd have a wonderful career" so I took that as a sign.

So I've been doing some research on what majors are out there for people who want to go into web development and this is what I've found. You can do computer science, but if anything you'd be doing web programming but likely nothing below that, and you'd have a whole lot of opportunities in computers which mostly pay tremendously well. This path I find not so desirable because the amount of math involved (which I'm good at, however I don't really want to use complex math in my career) and the depth of the major are a bit intimidating. Then there are IT majors, some of which have concentrations specifically in web development and some don't. This seems to be the most feasible of the four year degrees, but of course I'd want to be in this major only if I did have the web development concentration option. But, I am worried that maybe some of the coursework will be general IT stuff that I'll find too boring, but who knows? Not exactly a dealbreaker, but not my cup of tea too much either. Then I've found associates degrees in web development, and bachelor's degrees in computer graphics technology, although CGT seems to be more for people who want to be web designers which is NOT what I want to do, at least primarily, for many reasons.

So all that said, I have two questions. Firstly and most importantly, what major should I pursue and what type of degree for becoming a web developer? And secondly, I would love a leg up on my résumé and also, if possible, to have some credibility for input in the web design process even if that's not my primary job. So, should I take up a minor in computer graphics technology? Or, alternatively, would a minor in computer science allow me some wiggle room if I want to market myself as both an HTML/CSS coder AND a programmer, like for javascript, PHP, ASP and the like?

Thanks!
