This year I’m taking BC Calculus. For next year, my school only offers online math courses. I want to be an Econ major on a pre-med track. Which class would be most helpful going forward? I can take: linear algebra, multi variable calculus, multi variable statistics, discrete mathematics, or differential equations. I only have room for one in my schedule.
Do you get college credit for any of those classes? If you don’t, you probably are better off waiting, or taking the class at a community college. Either of the 2 MV classes would probably make the most sense as a next step.
I would suggest stats for an econ major.
Also be aware that college courses taken even at a CC will count in your GPA for med school applications.
General economics majors would need (in addition to single variable calculus that you covered in calculus BC) a statistics course. At some schools, a calculus-based statistics course is preferred or required.
At a few schools, multivariable calculus and/or linear algebra is required for economics majors; some other schools may have an optional math-intensive option using these math courses. These math courses and more are also recommended for those who intend to go on to PhD study in economics.
