The 80s definitely was the best musical decade. Van Halen, Talking Heads, G'N'R, Hall & Oates, New Order, etc. The 90s also were great: Oasis, RHCP, Sublime, 311, Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc. Classic Rock is also great as long as you don't include Fleetwood Mac which just blows. Country music and all this emo crap should be avoided at all costs.

ieatglue,

I meant to say rhetorically that I don't like their music.

Wow, I expected the Kings of Convenience to be horrible, but they are actually really good.

yay to the guy who said he liked Interpol. They're my favorite newer band. I also like the Beatles (very very very much. favorite albums are MMT, AR, and SPLHCB), Sonic Youth, Pavement, Beck, Snow Patrol, the Vines, the White Stripes, Air... the first album I bought was Oasis "What's the Story (Morning Glory)" and I still love it. I really don't like 80s music, David Bowie is an exception though.

Edit: and the Kinks and Connor Oberst of course.

The Beatles.

we all live in a yellow submarine.

Reliant K
John Mayer
Molly Johnson
Billie Holiday
Billy Talent (They're an AMAZING canadian band!)

I listen to all sorts of music, so you can call my taste ecletic i guess. I especially like techno though

Techno -
DJ Tiesto
DJ Sasha
ATB
Legowelt

some excellent techno songs i recommend are Southern Sun (DJ Tiesto Remix) by Paul Oakenfold, Disco Rout - by Legowelt, and Xpander by DJ Sasha.

I also like Thrice, songs like Stare at the Sun, All that's left, are especially good

and finally, the miscellenous crap, i liked the song Let Go - by Frou Frou, one might have heard of it from that Garden State movie

finally someone who likes techno. ever hear or listen to gigi d'agostino? good stuff

Country! Colleges should definitely consider me an URM... :)

I love CCR as well.

emO hawthorne heights "Ohio is for Lovers"

mine are

Southern Sun (DJ Tiesto Remix) - Paul Oakenfold
Xpander - DJ Sasha
Disco Rout - Legowelt
Satellite - Oceanlab

Alternative, Ska and Punk. I listen to some emo and screamo which isn't 2 bad in small doses. Also, I like Guns n Roses, Metallica, Oasis and the Ramones

RAP SUCkS. IT ISNT MUSIC.

I love EVERYTHING. Punk, Indie, Christian, Rap, (some) Pop...only thing I absolutely CANNOT stand is country. Avenged Sevenfold rocks my socks. So do From First to Last and Relient K :)

Hell yeah, Avenged Sevenfold is awesome

jamminjb5, the kings of convenience are excellent. I had "I'd rather dance with you" stuck in my head today. good stuff.

My favorite band is U2.

surprisingly, some disco isn't that bad, especially like that song from Napoleon Dynamite which he dances to called Canned Heat by Jamiroquai

If you like some disco, you should try some of The Clash, like stuff off of London Calling or Sandinista! Try Lost In The Supermarket off of London Calling, that's supposed to be somewhat of a blend of punk and disco (I don't really know disco, but that's what most people call that song).

And what ever happened to face-melting guitar solos and tempo changes? Sitting in the dentist's office for 45 minutes this afternoon made me realize how cookie-cutter and unoriginal virtually all modern mainstream music is.

There's no good guitar in songs. I'm not even talking about awesome solos like Freebird, Stairway or Crossroads, I'm talking about not even that technically difficult stuff (or so says my friend who is awesome at guitar) like the Paranoid, Aqualung, Southern Man guitar solos. No one plays guitar anymore.

All new music seems to be at the same tempo too. While tempo changes in songs (Happiness is a Warm Gun, Stairway, Bohemian Rhapsody) are awesome, I barely even see variation between different songs from similar artists.

Just some of the things missing from today's music. Aside from Radiohead, I do like a good deal of Radiohead.

I actually posted this because I heard a friend play the guitar solo from Paranoid (Black Sabbath) yesterday, and it rocked so insanely much. He's teaching me to play.

While the solo from Paranoid is indeed cool, it is not "technically difficult" at all.
