Should I apply early? Is it gonna be horrible this year?
Also, i will be taking the october and november SATs, so i was wondering, should I w8??

Not even the director of admissions would be able to tell you what early action is going to look like this year.

i was wondering if i should wait too until the RD round because of the october SAT. i'm not really comfortable with the score i have now. this is a really hard decision..

From the web site:

"...we strongly encourage you to submit all of your materials to us sooner. We expect a rise in early applications this year, so admissions officers will begin reading applications after mid-October. The earlier your application becomes complete...the sooner we can begin to evaluate it."

I guess they are anticipating a huge jump in apps. Gr. This sucks for people (like me) who always wanted to apply EA to Yale.

That sucks for people who are procrastinating on their essays :P

I've been wondering the same thing. I mean, with Princeton and Harvard both RD, how many upper tier candidates are going to apply to Yale Early reflexively...

hrm, i never thought about that... good point

It's sad, because now there is no way of showing Yale that it really is your top choice... if Princeton and Harvard still had early admissions, I'd still apply to Yale EA, unlike the majority of this year's EA applicants.

Well, there is a space on the Yale Supplement that asks you basically "what has influenced your decision to apply?" So, you might could set yourself apart by maintaining that Yale is and always has been your dream school. The adcoms are very perceptive, so I think that they will be able to tell who is really interested in Yale from those who are just interested in the name Yale. Just my two cents.

(And I'm pretty sure I'm applying SCEA.)

oh wow yeah. at my school alone 15 (out of 300) seniors are applying to yale early this year; last year no one did.

I think it is because Princeton/Harvard dropped because in years prior, they have always been much more popular choices where i live.

Yea Yale will get a lot jump in apps from those who wanted to go to Princeton/Harvard. Believe me I know. I am applying Yale SCEA although my first choice is and always will be Princeton.

Oh the irony. I'm not doing Yale EA anymore even though it's my absolute first choice. I don't see a difference anymore in doing the EA or RD round.

Yeah, I know a few people already who have their first choice as Harvard/Princeton and are doing Yale EA. Its going to be tough. I'm just hoping they decide to defer more people rather than reject more people.

The only problem with showing that Yale is your dream school in the "What has influenced you decision to apply" section is that it has a maximum 300 characters...

The more interesting questions is: what will Yale do in response if the SCEA applications substantially increase? Will they admit more top-qualified people, in the hopes of luring them from Harvard and Princeton? Or will they look closely for a Yale-related hook (like legacy status)?

Come on, if someone's dream is let's say Princeton, he will apply there even if he was admitted at Yale early.

Well, I think it's going to be an interesting year then. I love Yale from the bottom of my heart, so I just hope I can make that come alive in 300 characters or less.

If you love it that much it will show!

I've heard that more than 20,000 people had submitted their application form to Yale ...Could it possibly be?

g2com: that number approximates the total number last year. It's certainly not for this current season to date -- I'm not aware that any completed applicants have been forwarded to my local alumni interviewing group so far.
