What opportunities are available for students completing their freshman year?

What internships are ideal for a college student completing their freshman year? Would it be difficult to find one, and what GPA do you recommend?

It depends on your area for what is availble. I live in the DC area, so basically everything is. But you need to scope where you plan on working to see what kind of jobs/intern/externships are most readily avaible.

For summer after freshman year (if you are talking about these upcoming months, or even next summer if you are about to start college) don’t expect to get paid. Bottom of the totem pole combined with a not-so-great economy means less internships are being given verses externships (essentially an unpaid internship) and volunteer positions. I know in my area many government agencies/other corporations are just NOT doing internships. period.

Also minimum GPA varies. I’d say if you don’t at least have a 3.0 you have little-to-no chance of landing something. A 3.5 or higher helps a LOT to beat out competition. I know that my GPA (3.7) is one of the main reasons that I got an externship immediately at the agency I’m working for this summer.

Essentially, yes it will be difficult but if you put in effort you’ll find places to apply to.
