What percent of Harvard is... from

China

Hong Kong

Japan

Korea

Vietnam

other

?

Google probably knows. If Google doesn’t try Wolfram Alpha.

[Let me google that for you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=harvard+college+admission+statistics)

Was that so hard?

I find it annoying when people expect others to do easy research for them. If someone’s smart enough to be applying to Harvard, seems they could figure out how to Google instead of relying on random strangers.

this type of info cannot be found with a simple Google search.

The statistics are too general. All Internationals are categorized together.

^ Well then that information is unavailable. Exactly why do you think a bunch of people on an internet forum will somehow (magically) be able to tell you information that Harvard itself does not publicly disclose?

maybe a person or two might know inside info

Well, in Tentai’s defence, I saw a pdf on here a while ago with numbers of students from every country represented within the university (so also law school, HBS etc.) and then divided by subcategory. It was rather interesting, but the file has been disabled now, unfortunately. So this info is available, was posted on CC before, but, I must admit, has disappeared now.

Well, ain’t I the genius? You may do the calculations yourself.
I hope this was what you were looking for!

Oh no! There are 666 internationals in Harvard College. This does not bode well…

Make it 667! ADMIT ME! ADMIT ME!

I wouldn’t mind being #668 ;)

Or they could stop admitting internationals and focus only on US residents so that they could increase my chances ;)

JK.

hey, that link posted by GuiltyBystander, are those ALL the international students at harvard college in total? That isn’t for just one year right (like those 666 aren’t just one class of students right?).

For a second I got excited, thought that there were 144 Canadians accepted last yr. lol. But that isn’t the case right? Those are all the Canadians at Harvard College at the moment, correct?

To answer the original question (why?):

What percent of Harvard is… from

China ~ 0.5%

Hong Kong <0.1%

Japan < 0.1%

Korea ~0.7%

Vietnam <0.1%

other - All International = ~10%

Canada 2.2%
UK 0.8%
Australia, India each 0.3%
Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Israel each 0.2%
Malaysia, Thailand each ~0.1%

Ahh crap, you’re right ViggyRam. And I thought the numbers there were bad enough to begin with ha

Other than Canada, only South Korea, the UK, and China project to have as many as 10 accepted students in any year, and only Australia and India project to have more than 0-3 (but fewer than, say 7).

I feel pretty guilty that on average only like 5 Indian applicants get in, and say, maybe two Dutch applicants (not saying I will, hahaha), while the Indian population is pretty much 65 times as big as the Dutch population! And I reckon many more people apply from India than from most Western-European countries too, judging by the International Students Thread. It is logical though, I mean, if you would admit according to population distribution, Harvard College would obviously only have American, Chinese, Brazilian, Indonesian and Indian students, with an Pakistani or Nigerian student thrown in sometimes.

would public school applicants have an advantage over private schools?

And is being Indian or Pakistani better than being Chinese? or vice versa.
