I’m a current senior in high school and I really want to major in Biochemistry. I don’t plan on going pre-Med. I want to do heavy research into genetics. I would like to know a good minor for college as I would love to minor in Physics(I enjoy studying Physics but it might be too overwhelming). Any suggestions??
Choosing physics for a minor would create an academic demand similar to that which pre-med students typically encounter. In an example scenario, you could accomplish a biochemistry major with a physics minor in 16 to 18 courses out of a total of 32 needed for graduation, which still would leave you with reasonable flexibility for elective course choices. With respect to other ideas for a minor, you may want to consider computer science or math/statistics.
Regarding your intended major, you will, based on your interest in genetics, want to choose biology and molecular biology courses with evident components in bioinformatics.
