Hi! I just got accepted with a 2/3 tuition scholarship and i’m really excited! I’m from NJ so I have not visited DePaul yet, but can someone who goes there or has been there for a visit tell me what the overall vibe you got was? I’ve never been to Chicago either but I’m sure it’s amazing. I’m studying Poly sci and I got invited to apply to the 3+3 accelerated law program as well if anyone has any insight on that. Any feedback would be appreciated!
Hey there! I’m a current sophomore at DePaul, and I have a lot of friends in the PoliSci program. DePaul is great because it offers a lot of opportunities for internships (state politics, city politics, nat’l…), and the entire campus is pretty politically involved. The best part about DePaul is that even though you live in LP (unless you’re living downtown in the Loop), you have an unlimited Ventra card, so you can ride the CTA pretty much anywhere for free. I’d say that school spirit is kind of hard to come by (it’s more of an ironic thing here tbh), but that there’s definitely a group for everyone and everyone is very approachable!
That said, I’ve heard some weird things about the 3+3 law program – namely that because it’s so new, a lot of people aren’t sure where it’ll lead or how it’ll go.
thank you!
Being a DePaul grad and still very much a booster, I can say that having the basketball arena much closer to the downtown campus and just being in the city will help a lot with student vibe. The basketball team has been down for so many years and the student support has been apathetic, but things are on the upswing this year and next year DePaul has a very good recruiting class which will make things a lot more exciting.
Being right in the big city, DePaul has a very prominent law, business, and computer science programs, just to name a couple, that is very visible to a lot of employers. A little too visible perhaps lol - the infamous George Papadopoulos is a Poli Sci grad from DePaul.
