Guys, PR for SAT 1 is not really that good. It is too shallow, and plus there is nothing it gives, that is something rock solid you can use in the test. Just stuf which you already know, like process of elimination and guessing the answer (duh!) etc. The math section too is not that great, like I said nothing rock solid. The practice tests were pretty ok. Overall if you’re aiming for a 1500-1700, it should do.

Can anyone comment on Tutor Ted’s SAT Solutions Manual, 2nd edition? Had fair reviews on Amazon.

If anyone wants a few free chapters from my SAT Math Strategy book, feel free to PM me. Even if you just study the free chapters your score can easily go up 50 points.

By the way, can anyone tell me the policy here? Am I allowed to mention the title of my own book on the forums?

I did not read the entire thread, but someone recently told me about Kahn Academy SAT. It walks through the math problems in the College Board first edition prep book.

The CB is obviously the best for practice tests. But I also really like the Test Professors books. Their tests are much better practice for specific sections, and they are more accurate than PR, Kaplan, or Barrons. Their math and CR tests are especially good.

I found a pdf of Grammatix that is 193 pages, exactly the length of the one reviewed on the OP here, is that the actual book? It was very easy to find… I just wanted to know whether I should spend $50 or if this is good enough

Please check out my book entitled [Math Reference for the SAT](http://www.amazon.com/Math-Reference-SAT-Art-Martirosyan/dp/145632361X ) on amazon. Comments welcome.

Hi, I’ve done a tutoring company for the SAT. The first time I took it in October I got 1880 and then the second time I self studied and got 1930. I used the blue collegeboard book (most recent one) each time and a book that the company gave me which basically had general tips on each section and how to write the essay. I’ve decided that I will take the SAT one more time in October (my senior year) in hopes of improving my score. I am self-studying this summer and the books i’m using are: 2009 gruber’s math workbook for, direct hits vol.1 & 2 as well as a list that my tutoring company had given me, rocket rev or whatever its called…this book cost me 60 dollars used on Amazon because supposedly they dont sell em anymore. are these books sufficient? I REALLY need to improve my score…is this a good book regime to study out of to get in the 2200’s.

I highly recommend Tutor Ted’s Solution Manual. For those who do not know what Tutor Ted’s Solution Manuel is, it’s basically a big solutions manuel of the blue book. It’s great and I really do believe their writing section grammar is really good. The math is also great giving a step by step solution. They even show diagrams for some with people who cannot visualize a problem. I had not seen the reading as I was not really wanting to improve in that section, but it seemed good when I peeked a glance at it. Also, ALL the vocab words are defined on the back from the CollegeBoard book.

does anyone know where I can get the rocketreview revolution book without spending $100 online because CR is the only section that I need to work on this summer and I’ve heard this book is the best for CR

For SAT Math prep, I’m a fan of The 32 Most Effective SAT Math Strategies by Steve Warner. It’s short, easy to read, and contains tons of problems, and gives you just what you need to know without lots of extra fluff.

someone please make it official, what is the best book for grammar?

For math, do i buy the Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide OR Gruber’s Complete SAT Math Workbook ?

Yeah, I’d like to know the same thing. A friend has a Gruber’s SAT study guide from 2008 so I don’t know if I should buy the 2012 edition.

I think the Gruber Complete Study Guide would be better then just the Gruber Complete Math Workbook. But thats just my opinion…

For writing, I found the Barron’s writing workbook pretty helpful. It’s filled with something like 80 pages going over grammar rules and practice problems. If you do all the problems and read through it over and over, it does a good job.

Our daughter swears by “Professor Dave’s Owner’s Manual for the SAT.” The book is for students that want methodology, technique, and pacing. The author himself recommends the “Blue Book” as a source of practice questions. The techniques in the book are golden, she went up almost 400 points from October to December. Students also get access to the author’s private website which includes thousands of practice questions, essay grading, and a q&a on anything and everything. We got it on amazon.

As of now, what are the best SAT books for each section? In other words, what is the best SAT book for Writing, Critical Reading, and Math? (An example of a specific category book would be Dr. Chung’s SAT Math book)

Also, what is the best SAT prep book “overall”? (an example of “overall” is Gruber’s complete SAT guide)

@AniXiaN, I’m also pondering the same thing. I’m looking for books to purchase so I can start preparing for the October SAT. I’m stuck between Dr. Chung’s and Gruber’s for Math. I’m also really interested in finding a good CR workbook. I’ve seen one, which is Barron’s CR guide, but I’m not sure how effective it is. I have no problem with Writing, so I might just refer to Blue Book and Sparknotes’ deadly errors. I’m trying to find a book with tests.

@Haphazard Yep…I need to get good at fixing sentences on the SAT. That’s a difficult one for me.

I wonder what is the best for Math? Chung’s? SAT MATH 800? Gruber’s?..…
I’m also very interested in finding books for tackling the CR and Writing passages…

On another note, has anyone tried the Excel SAT prep program? What does it give (like, does it give the blue book)?
