"What SAT prep book should I get?" SAT book reviews

WHEN YOU guys say Gruber’s is good for Math, are you referring to the ‘Gruber’s Complete SAY Guide’, or ‘Gruber’s Math Workbook’?

Thanks!

The math workbook.

I have a few questions might already be on the thread, but I wanted clear answers. 1. Is it better to buy an entire SAT book or just buy separate ones for each section? 2. If I wanted to buy different books, what would be the best one for each section? 3. If I wanted to just buy one big book, what would be the best one, besides the BB? I was leaning towards Barron’s because I know it’s difficult and I can handle it, but after reading this thread I’m not so sure it’s the right choice.
Thanks in advance!

1) Buy an entire SAT book because it has more full-length practice tests. Or buy books w/ lots of practice tests.
2) For individual books, buy the Barron’s SAT workbooks.
3) For a big book, Buy the McGraw Hill one. It also has 10 practice tests like the BB.

Personally, I think the Barron’s practice doesn’t compare much to the real sat questions, which may or may not throw you off when actually taking the SAT.

This is very true.

What workbook would your reccomend for the writing section? Also, I have the Gruber’s complete book and I think that the math section is a bit of an overkill. Should I go through it from page to page? By the way, my score is a 590 M and 650 W.

Entrancestone, my dad has been an SAT tutor for over five years for those five years he has only used the blue book your first choice. he also has a list of books and even a way to contact him about lessons at his website studyprof.com. P.S it also has tons upon tons of study skills and methods that he has perfected over the years it is a great reasorce!!!

About Baron’s 2400 do they have internet scoring service? and another maybe a little off topic question: Can we take SAT again if we’re taking a gap year?

is it a good idea to uograde my princeton review book to 2011 editiob ? i have the 2008.
yes i know it isnt the best but im not aiming at 2400 either… high 1000s is fine…

anything different in 2011 ? thanks !

are the writing sections McGraw Hill’s 12 SAT Practice Tests w/ PSAT reliable?

can anyone tell me which is best, kaplan 2400, barrons 2400 or grubers 2400?

Hey Guys lets talk about the various 12 practice test for sat books… I will start us off…

My Expertise: I been using 12 sat practice test books ever since I started studying, and I have a fair knowledge of them…Hopefully…

Princeton 11 Practice Test for SAT: First book I had ever studied with. The sections are fair, but not ideal. A good buy if you want lots of practice, although the writing section damaged my moral; I got 7 questions wrong(on average), while I got 3 wrong on MCGraw Hill.

Collegeboard’s Official Sat Study Guide 2nd Edition(aka. blue book or BB): BEST DEAL! No criticisms possible cause 4 of the Practice Tests are actually from Sat itself and the other 6 are made by Collegeboard but not yet used. Must have…Enough Said…

Kaplan’s 12 Practice Test for Sat: ***??? Everyone said this book is too easy, but I always score lower on it than BB <-Sat Grammatical Error, but the writing section is fair. Although its CR and Math are wierder, not to mention harder, than that of SAT.

Mcgraw 12 Practice Test with PreSat: I just started on this but I score overall higher than on Blue Book… It might be same as Blue Book, because I haven’t done it in a long time. The math seems a big weird, but hey what do I know I took Calculus 1 and 2… The Writing and CR are bit easy.

Barrons’s(in General): hard but good for practicing focus.

-Remember in Critical Reading focus is essential to doing well…

So, what do you all think?

Ok so I looked up the Rocketreview and it’s crazy expensive.

my scores are
CR: 660-730 it’s been fluctuating
Math: 680-740
Writing 630-680

I bought the Grubers math workbook. how different is that from the Gruber’s SAT guide? I believe the latter is what everyone is talking about?
I found the Gruber’s math workbook quite easy, but I haven’t finished it yet so idk.

How is the 10 Real SATs? is it helpful?

I’d love for some suggestions here.

I’m looking for more practice tests for the SAT, specifically ones that are more accurate when it comes to CR and writing. I have already exhausted the BB , and I feel like I need more practice. I’m confident in math, so I’m focusing on what has the MOST ACCURATE/HELPFUL QUESTIONS for practice tests. I don’t need any strategy books, I’m just looking for practice.

Currently, I’m looking at McGraw Hill’s 12 practice tests, Kaplan’s 12 tests, and Princeton’s 11 tests.

Thanks so much for your help

what’s the best writing one??? i need more writing practice…

Isn’t Gruber’s too easy for answering the last few questions on the SAT math?

I read this thread and in the hope to find a good SAT Writing Part book. But I still don’t get it, except the college board blue book, which one is good (for writing/grammar section)?

^ I flipped through McGraw Hill and Barron’s at Barnes and Noble. Eventually, I decided to get Barron’s because it looked more helpful and was mentioned in the few threads that I could find about a good writing section workbook. However, my cousin loves McGraw Hill so much he uses it for everything and swears by the books. He loves his SAT test prep book. He also has the writing workbook and says it’s better than Barron’s. So really, it’s a matter of opinion and preference. I suggest you check both out.

Are there any books that only contains critical reading passages and no questions? I just want to practice reading the passages.
