Hello-
I am applying ED to NW. Which school would be “easiest” to get into? Keep in mind I am not strong in math/science.
None of them are “easy” per se - I’d apply to the one that your interests seem most aligned with.
I clicked here bc I have a similar question. My son is interested in both Engineering and Psychology. NU offers a BA in Materials Science in Weinberg. He currently plans to apply RD to McCormick.
I’m wondering if he would be better off applying to Weinberg than McCormick, if he hopes to double major. (He’d hate the foreign language requirement at Weinberg, but might be able to test at a proficient level before attending.) I’m curious how hard it would be to transfer to McCormick if he found he enjoyed the Engineering classes more.
I’ve read many places that it isn’t easier to get into one school vs the other, but in this case he may be better off applying to Weinberg because of Psychology.
Any advice?
The NU Registrar’s webpage has general info about inter-school transfers, so check into that. But look also at McCormick’s homepage and search for “inter-school transfer requirements”. Some schools have capped enrollment (ex., Theatre major in SOC) and some have requirements (ex., audition for Bienen).
There really isn’t one school at Northwestern that’s easiest to get into, but if you’re choosing between two, I would go with the one that you feel better suits your application. If your extracurriculars/courses/etc are very math and science focused, McCormick may be a better option. If there’s something particular about the psychology program in Weinberg (or another program like HDPS in SESP!) that he likes, he could apply to that program and mention it in his Why Northwestern essay. It’s not a big deal if your app doesn’t particularly fit with the program you’re applying to, but if you’re stuck choosing between two that can help you decide. And it’s very easy to transfer between schools after getting admitted. Bienen requires an audition, but other than that you can pretty much always transfer to any school really easily, even before you start at NU.
