What school to Transfer to.

I am just curious, what schools in the top twenty or so would have good chances for transfer? I will be a freshman at UVa in the fall. I probably will like it and not even try to transfer. Also what should I try to do if I want good chances to transfer to, say, UPenn or Chicago?

Sorry, but I have to be blunt about this.
You didn’t even start your college career and you’re already thinking of transferring??
I do not understand where you’re coming from. The most important part of the process of transferring is having specific, concrete reasons for why you want/need to transfer. From your post, it seems that you mostly care about is prestige… which is not a reason at all. Let me assure you, if you do apply and this is your only reason, you’ll stay at UVA --and that’s guaranteed.
If you feel that UVA is not the right place for you why are you going? It would be better to go to a CC and then transfer somewhere than go someplace that you don’t even like. You’ll waste money and take a spot from somebody who actually wants to be there. And if you’re not sure that you don’t like it, how about going there and seeing for yourself that UVA is right for you. Adjusting to college life is not easy, and everybody goes through ups and downs, especially during their freshman year. But go and see, don’t judge it too quickly and you could fall in love with it. UVA is a great, respected school, and many people would love going there. You should be thankful and proud of yourself for getting in.

First of all, UVA is an amazing school and many people would love to be in your position. That’s besides the point. If you’re keen on transferring to Penn or Chicago, you need to maintain a 3.7+, be active on campus, and take classes that pertain to your major.

I entered college wanting to do well and then transfer for prestige and now I’m transferring to UVA. All he has to do is come up with some believable reason for wanting to transfer other than prestige and he’ll have a good chance if his college GPA, HS record, and SAT scores are high enough. Let’s not pretend that the great majority of people who apply to transfer to top schools don’t apply to those schools because of prestige.

^Agreed. I’d be lying if I told you prestige didn’t play a large factor in my decision to transfer.

“I probably will like it and not even try to transfer.”

I said this in my initial post and I mean it. Honestly, I just want to keep the option open(the economist in me says that having options is better than not). The odds of me even applying transfer are very very small. That being said, UVa was not my safety school; The odds were against me going and I know I’m very lucky to be going there.
