I already know that I am going to have a hard time making it to many auditions. My high school schedule is extremely busy and I am going to try to audition whenever I can. I was just wondering what schools accept video auditions so I can concentrate on visiting the ones that don't first. Thank you very much!

It is probably best to contact the schools in which you are interested directly on this one. Some will say on their website that they do or do not accept video auditions, some will not say either way. Some will accept taped auditions only if someone is too far away to come to campus to audition (often for International applicants).

While schools that do accept taped auditions surely look at the tapes, and consider the auditions for admissions. You are always better off if you can audition in person. This gives the school the opportunity to meet you, for you to ask them questions, and for them to work with you. I would suggest that you may want to identify your personal top choice schools and try to audition for those schools in person.

Have you looked into the Unified auditions? This could give you the opportunity to audition for a number of BFA programs in one central location.

A solution to your dilemma would be to attend the Unified Auditions in Chicago and do many auditions there and then do just a few on campus auditions. Also, while all seniors are busy, particularly ones in the performing arts, you will need to make college admissions and auditions a priority, even if it may mean that something else must go. Also, many auditions are held on weekends. You have the best chance of getting your first choice audition dates that work best into your personal calendar if you plan ahead and schedule them as soon as it is allowable to do so. Further, you will know these dates months ahead and can notify directors and other teachers, etc. of when you will need to travel for college auditions. Again, you can minimize the number of audition trips/visits if you go the Unified Auditions route. I personally prefer visiting schools and doing on campus auditions but Unifieds ia a perfectly acceptable and viable solution if you can't do that.

I also think you are narrowing your chances of admission to audition via video even if they say they will accept video submissions.

EDIT. I crossd posted with KatMT's excellent advice.

Where do I find out the dates of the Unified Auditions?

Here is the link to the site -- it is currently under construction, but I would expect it to be updated shortly. Generally the Unified Auditions are in February in NY, Chicago, and LA.

Unified Auditions

syracuse does...but i wouldn't do it.

Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia accepted video auditions this past year. You may want to call and to ask about the requirements. We almost had to do this option, but was able to change our plans and attend in person. It was a very pleasant experience if you get the chance to visit. It was a very warm and welcoming environment.

My daughter was actually accepted to Shenandoah via a videotape audition. They require a classical-based piece as well as the typical musical theatre requirements as they stress classical voice training. At least, this was the way it was last year.
