What Schools should I be looking at?

Hi All. I'm a Junior in NC, and I'm just curious what kinds of schools I should be looking at.

School:
GPA:3.9 UW, 4.5 weighted
All classes are honors or AP with the exception of Math classes and Electives(i.e. Theater).
So far, I've taken AP Human Geography and scored a 5. I'm currently taking AP English, AP US History, AP Biology, and AP Comparative Government. I'm also taking 2 foreign languages (not sure if that counts for anything!).
I have not taken the SAT or ACT yet, but I suspect I'll do quite well at the Writing and Reading section while performing slightly less well on the math section (although I probably won't do that bad).

Extracurriculars:
Model UN (Vice President)
Chess Club
Gay-Straight Alliance
Lots of Volunteering (about 7400 hours of it)

Other:
I got an award for hard-working students that my school gives.

Interests:
I'm very interested in the Social Sciences, so a school that is good for them would be excellent.

So, what would be some good schools for me? Also, what would be some good safeties?

mulenberg college
http://www.muhlenberg.edu/aboutus/

Also- what schools would have financial aid for someone like me?

Go over to the Financial Aid forum and read the stickies at the top of the thread list.

Wake Forest, UNC

To get more (and better) advice, try providing more information about what you want in a college (size, location, atmosphere, etc.) If you don’t have any idea, keep in mind that most students attend public universities within a couple hundred miles of home. So start with UNC-CH and other public schools in your state.

If you mean need-based aid, that depends on the amount of aid available at each school and your family’s financial circumstances. Use the online Net Price Calculators to estimate your Expected Family Contribution for any colleges that interest you. Then talk to your parents about whether they can and will cover that EFC.

It is hard to know with out seeing your test scores or knowing more about the type of college you want like size or location. But here are some suggestions of schools you could look at and potentially have a shot at getting into.

-union in NY
-skidmore in NY
-GWU in DC
-middlebury in Vermont
-bates in Maine
-university of puget sound in Washington
-Michigan

All right those are many schools and a lot are very different.

Bump please??

Solarius, did you read the financial aid stickies? How much can your parents afford? It would help if you provided some of the info asked about above-- what you’re looking for, your family’s financial situation and approximate test scores. The obvious answer is UNC- Chapel Hill.

Well, I looked over the stickies, and I’ve talked some with my parents about what they can afford. I suppose what I’m looking for is schools that would be a good fit for my interests.

Can they afford $60K/year?

No. I just don’t want to rule out schools if they have high tuition but also a lot of financial aid.

Maybe you don’t understand…schools that “give out a lot of FA,” do not do so blindly. A person has to QUALIFY for the amount awarded.

A $60k school may give out the BEST BEST aid, but if it thinks that your family can pay $40k per year (and it can’t), then how will getting $20k in aid help you?

The MAX you can borrow is basically $5500 freshman year…lots of people don’t realize they can’t just borrow to make up the difference…
