I am currently trying to transfer out of my college because I am not feeling happy here. My high school GPA is a 3.2 with an SAT of 1600. My college GPA is a 3.5, undeclared. Where should I look into? I am currently attending a top 100 college according to U.S. News.

I will be transferring as a sophomore and I wanted to know if my H.S. GPA and SAT will still be a high factor during the admission process even though my grades in college is good enough?

Yes, your HS transcript and SAT scores will still be considered since you plan to transfer as a sophomore (HS record and scores are not as critical when transferring as a junior). However, your current college GPA is the most significant factor and something that will stand out to admissions.

What colleges should you consider? That’s really going to depend on what you are looking for this time. Are you at a large school? Or is it a small LAC? Is the “fit” wrong for you in terms of the cultural climate? What state are you located and can you describe the school you are presently at? What are the things that you don’t like about it, specifically?

If the OP had a 2.5 GPA for one semester of college, admissions would not focus most heavily on the HS transcript and test scores. They would be taking the HS record along with that college GPA into account. When a GPA has gone up from HS that just plain looks good on a transfer app. In OP case they may ask for mid-year reports to make a final admissions decision. I don’t think they will just conclude that they have to use the HS transcript and test scores only bc it’s just been one college semester with a 3.5 GPA. The OP should be especially proud of this GPA when they aren’t feeling like it’s the right school fit --that’s no small accomplishment.

It is great to see improvement, but four years of high school is weighted more heavily than four months of college. I am not saying that his college GPA doesn’t count; it is a big part of it, but high school + SAT is a bigger part.
