What schools to look at in the Northeast for engineering?

Son is thinking engineering but also has a strong interest in history.

He does not want to be any further than 3 hours from central MA. He is a severe introvert with some LDs that are not accommodated. His SAT/ACT were 1x with no prep.

He will apply to:

WPI
Northeastern
U Conn
U Mass Amherst (least fav so far)

looking at UMass Lowell/Dartmouth this week

might look at UVM.

at this point even he is not sure about where he wants to be re: big/small, city/rural, etc.

He does like cities, but really liked the UConn campus!

Any other schools to look at would be appreciated---personally I'd like to see him at a LAC--but he doesn't want a 3/2 engineering program.

thanks!

RPI in the Albany area is a school, you should look at…

I second that. RPI is a fabulous school that tends to be underrated. There engineering and science departments in general are incredible. The school is actually located in it’s own city: Troy, NY. But it is pretty close to Albany.

Any ideas of what type of engineering?

Have him check out UNH. They have a terrific engineering department.

Also Union (near Albany also) might be worth a look.

Isn’t his .gpa too low for RPI/Union?

justamomof4–he’s not sure what type of engineering…

we’ll take another look at RPI and Union…

keep the suggestions coming!

thanks

marie

Isn’t his .gpa too low for RPI/Union?

No. Your son is a great candidate/match for RPI. I say in at Union.

Also RIT (maybe too far but not sure), Manhattan (good engineering school close to NYC) and Trinity (CT).

try Lehigh University, it is a better engineering school than most mentioned above and you have a chance at it with the SAT scores, although the GPA is a little low.

RIT is probably too far–will check on Manhattan and Trinity. thx

Thanks for the suggestion, but we’ve looked at Lehigh and it’s too far for ds (almost 5 hours). Pretty much anything beyond NYC is out.
