In terms of either reputation AND/OR academic rigor &excellence, in your opinion, what schools are similar to McGill? I know this is super subjective, but I'm curious what ya'll will say

I'm especially interested in comparisons to US schools, as I know next to nothing about Canadian schools other than that i like Montreal and mcgill likes mel!! (hence the question ;) )

it's a very good school but not especially hard to get into. I hear it is quite rigorous once you're in, however. Montreal is an amazing city, as you probably know.

In terms of academic rep, I hear it is considered on par with schools around #25 (if that makes sense). So McGill is comparable to Georgetown, UCLA, etc. Very good, but if you get into a more selective US college and plan on working in the US or attending grad school, I would stay in this country.

Not sure what you wanna do, but I was a bit concerned at the very low number of McGill students that went onto Harvard Law. If you're looking into t14 law (or business, med, whatever) that may be something to look into.

It was ranked 24th in the world in the 2006 Times Higher Education Supplement World University Rankings. Here is the list so you can see the other luminaries!

1 Harvard University
2 Massachusetts Institute of Technology
3 Cambridge University
4 Oxford University
5 Stanford University
6 University of California, Berkeley
7 Yale University
8 California Institute of Technology
9 Princeton University
10 Ecole Polytechnique
11 Duke University
11 London School of Economics
13 Imperial College London
14 Cornell University
15 Bejing University
16 Tokyo University
17 University of California, San Franciso
17 Chicago University
19 Melbourne University
20 Colombia University
21 ETH Zurich
22 National University of Singapore
23 Australian National University
24 Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris
24 McGill University

That ranking is a little jacked up, regardless of who made it. The University of Chicago is called Chicago University, and Columbia University is misspelled completely.

Though I suppose their efforts were noble, but I find it tough enough to accurately rank the undergraduate programs of the US, much less the entire universities of the world.
