What score is a GOOD score?

I was just curious as to what score is considered a good score by Ivy League Universities. Some people say that if you break 2250, they pretty much consider you all equally, others say that a higher score will help you a lot.

I recently got 2260, but I dont know if that's good enough for some of the top schools. Should I take it again?

..........thats a ummm... superb Score? ... outstanding?? unbelievable??? hmm... Excellent.. Marvelous? Splendid? ...score. Of course take it again if you can get 2400. I encourage you. really. I would take your score any day lol.

that score should be good enough for any college, but of course you'll need an otherwise strong application.

i think 2100, at least 700 on each section, puts you on equal footing with everyone. after that threshold, it really doesn't matter

Last year, one of the parents on CC said that 750+ on both math and reading would be helpful for scholarships.

hypothetically, is it worth keeping a score when you think you did really well in one subject but then bombed the rest? like if you think you got 800 math 600 writing 600 reading, would it just be smarter to cancel it so colleges never see the 600s?

Kirareii, how does your 2260 break down? That sounds like a SUPERB score to me (definitely good enough for the Ivies). However, if your score was "inflated" by a high writing score, then you might want to take it again. For example, if you got an 800 writing, and a 1460 M + CR, then it may be worthwhile to retake and try to break 1500 M + CR.
For the SAT data (middle 50% SAT ranges for accepted applicants) at different colleges, go do a college profile search on collegeboard.com.
(here's Harvard: http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=1251&profileId=6)

my breakdown was

CR: 780
M: 760
W: 720

i wanted to bring up my writing score by 40 points to make it a 2300, but i dont know if its worth the time or effort...

Not worth it. The writing score carries very little weight. Your score of 1540 is great.

Quite honestly, there is no way to answer kiiraeii's question with a Yes/No and it's foolish to even attempt. Admissions are so holistic nowadays that any one criterion will most probably not hurt or help you dramatically during application review. As long as you present yourself truthfully and the real "you" comes out in the application, the college will then decide if you are the type of personality they are looking for in an incoming student. Otherwise, if you are rejected, and I say this very loosely, you should be content that the decision the adcoms made may even help you in the long run. In other words, I'd personally appreciate the adcoms telling me I probably wouldn't be an ideal student for that college rather than finding that out myself two or three years into undergraduate study. Ultimately, the prestige or "bragging rights" of going to any school should never be the deciding factor in you choice of institutions. I feel like I have deviated from the subject enough. To the original post, your SAT score is impeccable, many would kill to have that score but now that you have such a score, work on other parts of your application (or if you are a senior, then disregard this entire post :)

it's all relative to the person

I agree with the above posters: Your total score is great; the distribution among the three sections is great; do NOT take the SAT again.

i think the breakthrough point is 2000+ so you should be fine

taking it again probably wont hurt you, but definitely focus on other things if you're pressed for time.

splendid sat score but sat scores are noly one of the many factors ivys look at
your essay, ecs, and gpa counts a lot as well

Oxford requires 700 on each individual section for consideration of Americans. I believe the highest average SAT score of accepted applicants is at yale, and it's about 2180, but I'm only remembering that off the top of my head.

Especially with Ivies getting more and more competitive, I would say the 2250 mark sounds pretty reasonable. If I were you, I wouldn't take the SAT again unless I got really bored and had nothing to do except study for the test.
