Not the cliche sort things (like cooler kids, relaxed atmosphere), but more the academic things.

like I read in their viewbook, their very relaxed about students choosing majors and sticking to it. Also they have BAS, coterminal degrees, etc.

Are those things unique to Stanford, and what other things are there like that that are unique to Stanford?

Stanford is super strong in everything. No other university in the world can claim such a combination.

Stanford has top 10 programs across the board, with most in top 5 in fact. The list includes sciences, engineering, arts, social sciences, medical school, law school, business school, and education school. Stanford is sort of like adding Harvard and MIT together.

Besides, Stanford people are the most innovative in the world. No other school has made more contributions than Stanford to modern technlogies which make the world better.

One word...Berkeley
lol, but Stanford is awesome in general, although, it seems like every time I go to the campus everyone is just drinking beer around the oval! i guess that's what differentiates them!

PAC 10 is the sports division that Stanford belongs to, along with WSU, UW, Oregon State, U of Oregon, Arizona State, U of Arizona, Cal, UCLA, and USC (If I remember those correctly...)

OK, yeah Stanford is top 5, best athletic program. Now put that aside. My observation as a parent is that Stanford has something very different to offer than other schools. Community! At the Accepted Students weekend they let you know, from the top guy down to the students, how important you are to them. They dont tell you how lucky you are to be at Stanford. They say how lucky Stanford is to have you! And they follow that up at New Student Orientation. The diversity of the student body is amazing. The family environment and Community environment gives the feeling that , for the most part, everyone is there to help each other. a feeling I didnt sense at other competitive colleges.

stanford is located in Palo Alto, an upper-middle class city. Oddly enough, majority of the well off Palo Altans (60% Democract) are liberal socially and moderate economically. So will be interacting with well-off liberal people.

^^So it’s like really chill here, and the majority of people I’ve met so far are pretty laid-back. Some good examples would be the Stanford Band (taken to one extreme) and just other junk people do around here like fountain hopping and stuff. I definitely can’t speak much about the east coast schools, seeing as I’m not a student at those, and I really can’t speak much about Stanford either, as I’ve only been here for two weeks. But I find it hard to imagine that the culture at HYPM is similar to here.
