What should I do???? Cornell Hotel Management

I am a student in Canada currently in grade 10, my dream school is to get into the hotel management program in Cornell.

I can't say I have really strong academic scores since I didn't really think about these things until just recent months. As a Canadian citizen, I know that I will be compared with other international students that are Asian when I apply to the school.

My average so far this year is around 90%. I can describe myself more involve with clubs, next year I will be president of Art Club and Kids Help Phone club in my school, as well I have an online business and most of the money I earn from the website goes to the City Council Kids Help Phone Club which I created.

I know that Cornell Hotel Management program really look into your experience in work and I'm contacting a hotel manager that's my mom's friend if I could be his helper.

For sports I play:
-Badminton (placed 2nd in both doubles and single for my city grade 9)
-Tae Kwon Do Black belt
-Biathlon BC provincial cadets 4th

I will be taking SAT this summer as well as full IB next year.

I don't really know if this is good enough but I have read some of other people's resumes on college confidential and they seem so athletic and smart and so well rounded that I am now wondering what I can do to compete with them.

Anything I should know or suggestions? No harsh feelings, I really know where I am and how I can change. THANKS! (:

Ill be in SHA this year and here are some quick pointers…it’s brief cause Im on my phone haha

The Hotel school isnt too concerned with random school clubs…your time is better spent gaining work experience

The interview is CRUCIAL…register for it the August before senior year and prepare prepare prepare

Try to get recs from teachers that view as funny, outgoing and personable - the SHA looks for that

And once again, work experience!!! You have no chance without it

Good luck

thank you so much for all the helpful tips! (:

Does Hotel Management really look into GPA? I’ve heard US universities look at your grades from grade 8, is that true? Or only grade 11 and 12 matter?

Would getting higher SAT be better?

Would being a part time assistant for a hotel manager be a better working experience than being a waitress at a restaurant?
