So I basically messed up my sophomore and junior year. I’m a senior now and I am looking at what choices I have. I want to do computer science. I have a 2.8 9-12 UW gpa and a 2100+ SAT. I am also taking sat 2 for math and bio this November. I have narrowed my options down to two things. SJSU or De Anza and then UC Berkeley. I really wanted to go to cal but I obviously can’t now. I am thinking of doing De Anza because it is really close to where I live and I have already done some courses through concurrent enrolment. What are thoughts/ opinions???
Some additional info:
I don’t really want to got to SJSU because of UCB prestige and name.
I plan to get a 4.0 senior year and for the rest of De Anza.
I am also planning to intern after getting out of High School.
I have reviewed all the courses required to get into UCB and I can clear alot of those.
Does UCB care about your HS past if your transferring in? I think my horrible HS grades will affect me negatively. And do they care about SAT at all at that point either?
Is it possible to get into UCB after going to De Anza for only one year?
I think I can clear everything by 2016 Summer because I am actively taking courses at De Anza and Foothill as concurrent enrollment. What are my chances?
Also is it worth doing the extra course work for EECS? I was thinking about it, and since many of the courses are offered at scattered CC’s, I don’t think I want to do the extra effort.
I am also retaking the SAT and plan to score 2200+.
Thanks
Sorry for the long post
De Anza. CC students have priority at most UC campuses.
EECS in one year is extremely unlikely due to the amount of prereqs you have to take.
Plus, there is no bonus for completing everything in one year. If anything, you are competing with other applicants who have 2-3 years of coursework and 2-3 years of ECs.
If you go CC, you don’t need the SAT and they don’t ask about your HS records
If I have taken AP Bio (4) and APCS(5) and Im going to take AP Calc AB (5 most likely) and AP Lit (4 most likely), what things can I knock off my IGETC?
And can I also get most of my IGETC done in concurrent enrollment and have it count?
I want to finish most of my GE stuff before I start De Anza so I can focus on UCB specific courses and EC’s.
Thanks a lot for your replies
That depends on what classes those AP scores satisfy at De Anza, and what classes De Anza uses to satisfy IGETC. What does the De Anza website say regarding IGETC?
All classes taken though concurrent enrollment count, so long as they are UC transferable.
If you don’t want to go to SJSU, the choice is pretty simple. De Anza it is… Just, don’t fixate on a single campus as your sole transfer target. Transfer admission to the top UCs is very competitive and you may wind up at another UC or CSU.
You can transfer after a year but, you need the 60 units accumulated by the end of the Spring - not summer. With 4 AP courses, that is a tall order. 12 units over the summer, 18 Fall and 18 Spring leaves you 3 units short and is a heavier course load than most can handle while earning a competitive GPA. A course or two @ DeAnza in the Spring will put you over the mark - but, that’s a LOT of work for a graduating senior.
I’m looking into UCLA and maybe Cal Poly SLO. But I really want UCB as its my dream school. But yes I can see why I need to have a backup. Does anyone know the stats of previous transfers? I can’t find them anywhere. Thanks

You can get a great profile of UC transfers (by campus) from that tool.
SLO updates this table each year. Note the small number of total transfer admits. Also, their preference for the local CC campus significantly skews the reported Avg GPA - For non-local transfer applicants, SLO is probably the most selective public school in CA. Lots of applicants are rejected by SLO but accepted by UCLA every year.

Smart applicants use TAG to lock down a seat at UCI/UCD/UCSB as a fall back.
Do your best, follow the TAG/TAP framework and process and see where you are in a year. Your GPA and EC resume will dictate which programs to focus on.
Good luck.
