Please advise Re: Transferring to UCB from De Anza

I'm an international student who tried to apply to UC Berkeley and was rejected (TOEFL iBT 110, SAT 2130, SAT II Phy 800, Math 2 800, Chem 790, top 1% in graduating class in HS).

I am planning to attend De Anza College then transfer to UC Berkeley or UCLA. But some of my friends said it would be impossible if I wanted to take the Electrical and Computer Engineering major in UC Berkeley by transferring in junior year from De Anza College. Is this really true? Please advise! I'm so confused now!

they probably meant that De Anza college does not offer enough major-prerequisites for that specific major. This can be confirmed simply by going to assist.org.

Thats just a guess though. Good luck bro.

You would certainly be taking a huge chance as an international trying to make that transfer happen. You will not get the favored treatment in state students get making that a very, very tough thing to make happen. With your strong stats I’m not sure you want to spend 2 years at De Anza with that risk.

jack23 and hmom5, thank you very much for replying.

I’ve asked quite a lot of people now, and De Anza College seems to be one of the top ranked colleges based on the number of transfer students to the UCs. On top of that, people say the engineering department in De Anza is great.

hmom5, do you have any other alternatives besides De Anza if I still want to transfer to Berkeley? I’m planning to go to De Anza and transfer to Berkeley after 2 years because from what I’ve read and what people told me, Berkeley prioritizes transfer from community colleges than from other 4-year universities, including even transfers from other UCs. So I’m hoping for a greater chance of being accepted to Berkeley by attending De Anza.

Again, thank you very much for your help!
