I’m a senior in college, I’m 15 credits away from the big 120. My major is finance but because of mistakes I made and poor guidance I will not be able to graduate with a degree in finance unless I stay in school an extra year. So five year total. I have yet to even get a finance internship because of my low gpa (2.7). I’m asking for advice on what I should do I think I can get out earlier if I change my major. But I honesty don’t know what to do. I do not have the energy to stay an extra year for my BA.
Switching to another major might be a good thing. Do like finance? You said you don’t have enough energy to complete your BA. Maybe that is because finance is not right for you. If that is true, switch to a major that will motivate you. A major that you truly enjoy.
Can you survive another year? If you can barley pass these four years, can you you survive another year? Another option could be a gap year. Get your life in order then come back and finish your college education.
We all make mistakes. The best thing to do with mistakes is to live and learn. My opinion is that you’re so close to a college degree that you shouldn’t quit now. However finish your education as non-stressful as possible. Don’t kill yourself over this degree. If that means a fifth year, so be it. A fifth year in college is better than dropping out right now.
If you’re one or two semesters away from graduating, suck it up and do whatever you have to do to graduate with a BA.
If you change your major, it will likely add an additional year to your studies.
If you stay in finance, it will add a year to your studies.
I think the bigger question is…do you really want a career in finance?
If yes…stay the course. If not…switch.
And really…you need to see an academic advisor ASAP to see what you need to do.
