I have a question about my essay for Michigan State University. I am applying here as a fallback school and I have structured my main common app essay for U of M around a Common App topic (obviously), and I feel that this essay is pretty strong. The essay is very close to fitting into one of the MSU topics, but not quite perfectly. I need some advice. First, here are the topics:

"Michigan State University recognizes that an assortment of interests, viewpoints, and life experiences are important in student learning and enhance the university community. Describe an experience, passion, or characteristic that illustrates what you would contribute to the MSU community and how this will add to the overall richness of campus life.

Describe a significant experience from the past two years which required you to interact with someone outside of your own social or cultural group (ethnic, religious, geographic, socio-economic, etc.). How did this impact you? What did you learn and what surprised you?"

The second topic absolutely PERFECTLY describes my essay except the "significant experience" was not from the past two years. The first topic fits it decently, but I dont have anything about it explaining "how I will add to the overall richness of campus life," and I'm afraid that If I do add something to make it fit, it wont flow well with the essay. What should I do? Does it really matter if my experience is from before two years ago? I will pm someone my essay if they are interested in reading it to give me advice.

Thank you!
