What Should I Do?

I’m a to - be senior high school student. I’m debating on whether or not I should take AP Bio next year. I’m taking AP Chemistry, AP English, AP Calculus BC, AP Spanish, AP Government & Economics, Gym, ceramics, lunch, and internship next year as of now. I was thinking I should remove either ceramics and lunch or ceramics and Spanish for bio because I feel that I’ll need bio since I’m planning on going into pharmacology. I’m not sure if I should remove spanish because I feel like it would look better to colleges if I continued to take it even though colleges often recommend 3+ years of foreign language and I have taken 4 years of spanish. I’m also unsure about removing lunch because I won’t have a “break” period between classes. So what should I do?

I don’t know what to do because I feel like I need AP Bio or at least some background in it but I’m worried about overwhelming myself next year because I’m aware that AP Chemistry and AP calculus bc is a lot of work.

You don’t need anything. That is what college is for. YMMV, but for me, giving up lunch is not an option. The workload will, in part, depend upon your school, but my experience is that AP Bio and AP Chem together is a killer combination compounded by the fact that each will have lab reports that need to be written up. Personally, I would stick to one science class.

AP Chemistry is said to be the hardest class in my school because the teacher is really tough. The college I wish to attend says that they recommend taking biology and chemistry during high school to have some background in those subjects if I wish to go into a science program. I’ve taken Living Environment and Anatomy & Physiology but I’m not sure if those 2 classes count as biology. Also, another student in my grade is taking 3 science classes next year and I feel like I’m doing less compared to him.

Living Environment and Anatomy and Physiology would both be considered biology classes by most universities and if you meet the entry science requirements you should be fine. You need lunch and you need to stay balanced. Try your best to care less aboutvwhat the other guy is doing and more about meeting requirements and what makes the most sense to you.

What if I want to take bio for the college credit? Then would it still be a bad idea because I wouldn’t be balanced? People are telling me I should take bio as if I won’t get into the college I want without taking it.

Many many students, even premeds and bio majors, get admitted to top colleges without having taken AP Bio.

That said, you want to take AP Bio, take AP Bio. However, if you’re concerned about how colleges will view it, don’t do it at the expense of AP Spanish. If you’re concerned about your mental and physical well-being, don’t do it at the expense of lunch.

Okay, thank you very much for the advice. It really helped a lot.
