So until now I was planning on attending a Summer Program at NYU. The thing is I only got into my 3rd choice because I applied pretty late. Now I'm contemplating on whether or not it's worth the money($3500+) and time.

If I don't do it, my summer will be much more lax and I can focus on developing my ec's in other ways such as a job, some music courses, maybe an internship, community service, etc. Plus I'll save my parents a LOAD of money that can probably go into something else useful. Also, the fact that i only got into my 3rd choice is kind of disheartening. It's a subject that I don't have too much of an interest in.

That being said, it is a dream of mine to attend NYU and I feel that maybe this program can push me over the edge in the application process. It can possibly show that I have a major interest in attending the school(I'm planning on applying ED). Also if I happen to do well and get a proffessor recommendation, that'd probably do wonders.

So as you can see, I'm in a pretty sticky situation. Any comments/suggestions can help guys. Thanks!

That's exactly the thing. When I applied to begin with, I also did it out of an interest for my first 2 choices. But problems with my guidance counselor delayed my application so I got stuck with my 3rd choice which was pretty much a last resort.

So now if I do the program, it'd probably be solely for "helping my chances". Although, I must admit I was looking forward to being independent and experiencing the city during the summer. But I don't know if that merits such a large amount of money.

I did a cheaper leadership program when I was a junior in HS, it wasn't my top choice but I knew I was doing it NOT to improve my chances - just to get a chance to experience a bit of what college would be like and be independent.

I feel that for the cost I paid it was a very good experience, I do feel however that 3.5k is very steep. I think there's a good chance that you can end up regretting your decision if it's just a 'chances' type deal.

Regardless, I think deep down you know what you really want and will make that decision.
