Ok. Well, I've been accepted to both University of Central Floirida's (UCF) Honors College and the University of Florida (UF) non-honors. I want to major in business marketing, and I have 2 of my best friends attending UCF. However, I do want to re-create myself in college, and I don't know if I'll be too attached to them to make any new friends (they're both NOT going to be in the Honors college)

Anyways, I made a comparative list of the two schools:

UF:
better school (academically-wise)
make new friends
like the campus
like the feel of the college town
love how united the students are (GATORS!)
feels like me

UCF:
Honors program
scholarship ($10,000 spread out through the 4 years, so $2,500 a year)
smaller classes :)
best friends
better dorms
Like Orlando area (lots to do)
Comfortable setting
They want me more

I just feel I'll be holding myself back if I don't attend UF, but I know I can always transfer to UF if I attend UCF and don't like it.

I'd go with UF for the personal stretch it would give you.

Also, the alumni network has got to be wider and deeper, something that would be very helpful to a business-marketing student looking for internships and future job placement. In fact, why not look at the website for this kind of information and see how they compare.

I had the same problem, but I am still waiting on my honors college decision from UCF. I was accepted to UCF back in October, and on February 13, when I received an acceptance from UF I had to rethink everything that I was doing.
I ended up choosing UCF, even though I have yet to hear from the honors college, for several reasons. At UCF I can get both a bachelors and masters in 5 years in Computer Science, while at UF the CS department does not respond to my emails about a BS/MS in 5 years, and they are not ABET accredited in Computer Science. At UCF admissions responds to every email that I send them, while at UF I rarely get a response. I like the feel of UCF better, because they actually care for their students-- and for a large school that is important.
At first I felt like I was shorting myself by not choosing UF, but I know that in the long run UCF is the best school for me.

Both schools I know are good for business because of the connections you can make by being a Gator, gaining you a step in the door for future careers, but then its good in Orlando too because of the multiple opportunities of internships IN orlando right at your fingertips...

Ugh i just want to make a decision! but you both make good points! :D

And i do see your point, knightforum, because i know i'll be more important in UCF, like they actually care about me, where in UF its like "oh, you're another 1300 SAT score, whatever" and i'm a just a number in the crowd.

But when I went to Gainesville, I got that feeling where I loved the school, ya know? and i feel like a big opportunity would be slipping through my fingertips if I don't go for it. ughhhhh lol

mcvcm92:
well they're both the same size pretty much, but i guess you're right because i'd go to the honors college, with like 1000 kids or something haha
thank you! :)

"The Burnett Honors College incoming class has an average SAT score of 1361 and a 4.1 grade-point average. "

UF:
(2008) Middle 50% of the Class
High School GPA of 4.0 - 4.4
SAT of 1210 - 1400
ACT of 26 - 31

there are the stats....

Idk if I'm just leaning towards UF because of the prestige. However, I do get a queasy feeling if i say "I'm going to UCF" because it just doesn't sound right. what do I do?!?!

Everyday I rethink my decision.. my friends and teachers ask me where I am going to school and I say UCF... then I add.. "but I was accepted to UF."

The major thing that is keeping my away from UF right now is housing, since I did not submit the $25 deposit due to financial reasons and at the time I was set on UCF.
So if I for some reason choose UF I will have to live off campus, because it is definetly too late.

I'd go with UF. My sister is in the business college there and feels challenged. She also had a really excellent professor for one of her econ classes (he has been called to advise a few different presidents) and is able to double major in another completely unrelated discipline easily. While UF was never for me, I think it's the best (or at least tied with FSU) in the state for business. In addition, Gator Nation is a great community and it has strong ties in Florida if you plan on staying here after graduating. If you plan on leaving the state after graduation, the UF name will probably go farther in the business world. In addition, the business school has a 5-year BS/MBA program, which might be a consideration.

However, it really is your choice. I know people who have gone to UCF and loved it. I know people who have transferred out of both schools. Maybe visit each again, or once if you haven't already, and decide which feels like the best fit for you. Remember, UCF has even more students than UF, even if the honors college is smaller.
